Access 2007 VBA Programmer's Reference

I had done very little code writing, and only that which I needed and found by googling. So I found myself writing code for what I needed to happen, but not having a clue of what I was writing. I read the reviews on this book and the 5 star folks are very correct. This is an excellent book for beginners and advanced programmers, which is a tough spread to cover. As a newbie, I was able to self-teach myself the basics of VBA and now am able to read and use advanced code much more easily. Well worth the purchase and I have tabs stuck all over the place. The appendixes were worth the price alone, and the tips they share are valuable. Great job.

I am an intermediate Access user and am using Access 2007 to build a machine maintenance database at work. So many of the references I have used seem to be stuck in a "Northwind" paradigm. They read almost like a copy and paste out of Microsoft Office help documentation. I am doing something different and needed to understand how the program is put together for the less common way I am using it. I have finally overcome weeks of frustration and have a successful working program. If you are not an expert at VBA programming but need more than macros to get from point A to point B, this book is it, Need I say more?

I was pretty new to Access when I got this book, although I do have a pretty good understanding of programming in general. I thought this book was helpful and I was able to make some pretty cool personal databases. I didn't do anything too crazy, but I think this book would have been able to get me there if I needed to. If anything, it's nice to have around and at a reasonable price.

A very helpful reference to have by your side, as well as a good introduction to what has changed in working with Access 2007 compared to its predecessors (and much has changed). This books does a better job of sorting it all out than previous ones I have tried.The book has a decent index, and sample code just about everywhere, so I have learned a number of new VBA techniques as well. A good purchase.

This book assumes you know what VBA is...that's about it. I had been using VBA for about 3 years before buying this book. It is written very progressively...the further you read, the more detailed it gets. I have already recommended this book to friends at least 10 times. Recommend to all of you as well!

I know this is not a text book, but I always prefer books that provide practice exercises or workshops to help stimulate the learning process. The book is full of examples, but they seem disjointed and designed for a skilled program. If you are just starting out in Access VBA, this is not the book for you. If you have a lot of experience and want to go to the next level, I am sure you would enjoy this book. It really is a boring read. There are much easier to read computer books out there. The authors should read some and try to emulate books that teach rather than spit out dry technical information.

I am not a programmer. This was a good choice for my specific needs. I find it to be a very good reference book with lots of examples.

For a big, thick reference book this is fairly poor. Ok, it covers all of the basics in detail but need more than that and it fails. Not enough on forms, form navigation etc. Very little on unbound forms via ADO. Practically nothing on programming style or standards (that's probably asking too much to be fair). The tricks and tips section at the end is very useful and should be expanded. In general, I'm surprised how infrequently I refer to this book after owning it for nearly a year.

I bought this book for my friend for his birthday. He loved it and was really thankful. Cant say much as I have not read it myself, however my friend was really pleased with it.
