Great for iMessage, terrible for using apps for more than an hour collectively
Where do I begin? I thoroughly researched WiFi devices for traveling and found the solis to have great reviews. I previously used the Tep and found that connecting 3 devices yielding only ~6 hrs of good connection and speed while in Europe. I just got back from another trip where I was in Prague, Budapest and Rome and was pretty dissatisfied with the solis. If you are someone looking for WiFi to use iMessage, check email and maybe use an app for a few minutes, then the solis is great. If you are someone like me, who needs the device for iMessage, occasional email check, map use and social media (<1 hr a day) then avoid this device. Too many times, I was left using public WiFi because this device couldn’t connect. I would try and send a Snapchat and it wouldn’t work. Very frustrating because the $9 a day price is high for its value. For a dollar more I could’ve used the international plan with Verizon. I regret buying this device.I cannot stress enough if you are someone who will need to or want to use this device for anything other than text, for more than a collective hour—avoid this device! As far as battery life, it was very good.

Disappointed
I work from home, so was anticipating pretty good reception on a recent trip to a major metropolitan area in the US. Unfortunately, it was exceedingly slow and got worse throughout the day. I wouldn’t recommend this device to anyone wanting WiFi for more than basic internet searches and email checks.

DO NOT PURCHASE!
The SkyRoam hotspot/charger would not even keep a charge for more than 40 min, but still used the full day pass as it’s on a clock and is not based on the unit working so as soon as you turn it on and connect it starts. 30 min later the until shuts down but you still used your day pass. Spent $200 for unit $50.00 for replacement batteries $50.90 for Day passes and $500 in overages from my carrier. Customer service took five days to come up with a solution... when I get back to the USA I can return the unit. Do yourself a favor and buy another product.

Wifi worked great overseas
Bottom line - happy I purchased and would recommend to friendsI followed the directions to set it up and had very little trouble. It worked well for our needs when traveling in Tenerife Spain. We'd use it for Google Maps, e-mail, and basic browsing while walking or driving around and when out at places without wifi. I was surprised to find that purchasing day packages through the app was a bit more expensive than buying prepaid 5 day packages through Amazon. So buy prepaid cards for however many days you need from Amazon before you need them. I only have 2 complaints about the product. The first is I wish it fit better in a pocket. It's not big, but I'd prefer an iphone shape to the puck so I could carry it in my pants pocket. The second is that it requires an included dongle to charge non-USB-C devices. I was worried I would lose the dongle. Also, I was worried the dongle would cause the charging socket to bend or break if the puck was transported while charging something. As devices continue to shift to USB-C, my second complaint will become moot. Things to note: The day of internet once you start one is for 24 hours from when you start it. The fine print evidently says you get 500MB of 4g speed before it drops to 3g for the rest of the period. I don't think we ever ran out of the 4g so it was never an issue for us. If you're going to be a heavy data user, you'll want to know that going in though.

So far so good, but may be better in locations with better overall wifi
I bought the Skyroam Solis to use on a trip to India. (I'm hoping to be able to use it on other trips this year, and if so, the purchase will pay for itself.) India's internet service is slower and spottier than westerners may expect, which means that the Solis works well when it can get a connection, but may not work all the time or as quickly as you're used to in more developed countries. I was glad to be able to get unlimited data for $99 per month (an offer that may not always be available). I used this in conjunction with periodic data passes from my mobile provider. In another region I would try this on its own.Ordering the Skyroam from Amazon was great because I got it in two days for the same price I would have paid to buy it directly from the company, which would have charged me extra for delivery in time for my departure.

Lags the more users there are
Still, a game changer as you have a secure network anywhere you go, I keep it in backpack when traveling and no more wasting cell phone data or using a free wireless network in a coffee shop. It does lag with more than two users, and with four it's almost unusable, and does reboot/recycle at inopportune times. Still, good value.
