Bisto Chip Shop Curry Sauce Granules - 170g

As a Brit living in the US there’s nothing I crave more than chip shop curry sauce and this really hit the spot. Is it more expensive than UK bought? Maybe! Is it an EXACT replica? No but it’s pretty damn close. The taste is delicious, not really spicy at all but tangy and flavourful. Perfect paired with fish and chips. Will buy again!

This is like a gravy with very good flavor.

The consistency of this product is really thin, it has a slight vinegary taste to it. I made around 6 oz of water and used 5 spoons of the granules and it was still really thin. This is not the same chip shop curry I remember from 15 years ago. The recipe has changed or it didn't ship well, or it was manufactured somewhere else. This shipped quickly, got here earlier than anticipated. Seller was great.

I bought this after having it recommended by someone in the UK who called it "just like you get in chip shops". Well, I have never been to a chip shop, so I can't say if that is true or not. I have only had curry chips at various pubs in the US, and the ones I have made myself, and the one thing I can say about all of the ones I have had before is that they had curry in them! This sauce mix is very quick and easy to make, and the flavor is good enough for when you want a quick snack, just don't have your heart set on a real "curry" flavor because there is no curry in it! It has a "curry like" flavor, but is very mild, and even a bit bland. Still, it is good enough for a quick snack, and is a lot better than dipping your chips in ranch...

In England Chinese food is Hong Kong style which is more of an hybrid of British and Chinese Food, there’s no better demonstration of this than curry sauce and chips. There’s a Chinese takeaway near my parents house in England that has the best curry sauce and chips I’ve ever had, admittedly there’s a lot of other takeaways that has great curry sauce and there’s plenty that have great chips but getting them both right is an art in itself. This sauce of course in no way compares, but for some reason I’ve always been a fan, mainly because I don’t take it too seriously. If You want something closer to an authentic taste the best available is the Mayflower Chinese sauce mix. McConnells is good, but it’s closer to Indian curry than Chinese which is what this sauce mix attempts to recreate. I’m not much of a curry snob and tend to cycle through them all, including the house brand. These sauces are what they are, nothing recreates the experience of walking out of the takeaway with a warm parcel of Chinese curry sauce and chips on a cold night watching coronation street.
