Goddesses in Older Women: Archetypes in Women over Fifty

Goddesses in Older Women
"Goddesses in Older Women" is giving me a fleshed out experience of something I had heard about but never studied. These archetypes are beginning to become recognisable in people I know as well as in myself. Her writing and way of teaching is very easy to understand and apply in life. A very enjoyable book indeed. I plan to buy more of her work. This book is helpful, especially now, in my efforts to write a good, insightful novel. It is such a useful way of understanding my characters I am getting acquainted with in my book.Since writing a novel is often a reflection of the author's inner reality, Jean Shinoda Bolen's book is assisting me in evaluating where I fit into these archetypes. A bit of do it yourself therapy and counselling is going on for this writer!

Calling all women!
In a culture that worships youthful beauty, this book reminds us all that our esoteric standards are stifled, immature and limited. The wonderful Bolen leads women (and real men) on a revealing and empowering exploration of the many rich, strong, wise, diverse and beautiful identities that both shape and define the gifts of "older" women.I have shared this book with my daughters, my friends and as a springboard to discussion in nursing homes with goddesses over 90 years rich. There are truths here that we must affirm (as they affirm us!) in order to claim our true places in this world!

... a next step for those who have read and liked her earlier book "Goddesses in Every Woman"
This book is a next step for those who have read and liked her earlier book "Goddesses in Every Woman". It is a book about personal development and spirituality for women over 50 years old. It combines the concepts of Carl Jung regarding archetypes of the collective unconscious with mythology of selected goddesses.

Goddess
I checked out this book at the library. It was so good that I wanted to add it to my personal library. The seller said it was in very good condition. It was actually in better condition than the library book. Happy it's perstine and unmarked as per description. Very happy

Claiming My Crone
I have enjoyed this book and benefited by it in terms of empowerment and self-esteem. I have a Master of Divinity from a well respected (though infamously liberal) theological school. I found Bolen's take on ancient religions and current modern traditions spot on. This was an easy read, and entertaining. I recommend it to any woman facing entrance into her crone phase... and to any man who cares about such a woman.

The Female Myth
This a great gift for a diva turning 50. I took it with a group of ladies 50- 61 on a 50th birthday celebration trip to Mexico We all enjoyed reading it. I have had their other book,Goddesses in Every Woman for years and love that as well. Both are well researched and help women understand their motivations and passions. Good food for thought on the female myth.

I really enjoyed this book
I really enjoyed this book. I can clearly remember how the archetypes Dr. Bolen describes have manifested at different times in my life and it's easy to recognize some of them in friends and family. I like knowing I have a wealth of goddesses to draw upon as my life seasons change. I can stop looking outside myself for validation and just ask the goddesses!

Very Little about Romantic Love / Eroticissm and Older Goddesses
I was looking for information on goddesses and the eroticism of older women, and found very little about that in this book. People with other, less specific, interests may find the book to be of greater interest. However, while older men may find archetypes that support their continued sexual development in books on mythology, it is interesting that in a book focused on goddesses in older women, this important aspect of human experience is nearly absent.
