A very good teaching text.
An excellent beginners guide. Slow, detailed, and encouraging. Be aware however your version of blender may not be the one on which this book is based. be prepared for some occasional confusion between the instruction given and the way the same action is called in your version.

A good place to start learning Blender.
Before I started reading this book, I didn't know anything about 3D modeling or Blender. This book provides a gentle introduction into a complex piece of software and I am very pleased with the progress I have been able to make so far. Some of the instructions can be a bit hard to follow at first, but I have found if I re-read them a couple of times and refer to the companion content (available from the books website) then I can usually get to the end result. The lack of a forum for the book, where you can ask questions is a big drawback for a learning resource and I was not able to find the "Bonus Chapter" referred to in chapter 5 on the website, or with the code downloads. If you want to learn to use Blender, I would certainly recommend this book as a good place to start.

Overrated
The biggest problem with this book is the printing. The screenshots are so low resolution that you cannot read the text on the buttons and know what to click. The text does not follow any logical structure conducive to leaning. There is too much history and too little science. It needs to be simpler and more focussed.
