A early look at what is now turning out to be correct
With the JWST essentially putting the final nail in the coffin of the very flawed Big Bang model, the Static universe is the most likely theory with upcoming plasma theory developments to supplement it.

A refreshing view on a science gone mad!
Caveat: This review is a summery of my experience in reading this book, under a compromised state of health and concentration. The author claims that Cosmologists have led science astray. Beginning with the dubious Hubble Relationship, theoreticians were quick to grasp any "evidence" they could, which would mesh with their ideals of mathematical beauty and theoretical fantasy. Since then, The Bang Bang Theory (BBT) has produced a dizzying array of models, ad hoc theories, and superstitions unaccompanied by observational evidence, or subject to the most authoritarian interpretation.Ratcliffe does an excellent job of presenting an overview of the problems of the BBT, universal expansion, and the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMBR). So too is introduction (to most non-astronomer readers) on measuring distances to galaxies. My problem with the writing, is that many of the key points are buried in gray-text; I would have bullet points or bold letter titles to explanatory paragraphs. But that's just me.In Chapter 8. Ratcliffe really hits his stride, reducing the BBT Cosmology a seedy house of cards, built by emperors without clothes. And in the final chapter (9), he discredits the notion of Consensus Science, which is another fraud, and one that Science would be well to be rid of.The author proves his point. And like all good works, left me wanting more. I am now curious about the politics of scientific organizations and the sociology of scientists as a culture. I would like to know how a noble enterprise took the road of great foolishness, or whether it was always flawed with human frailty. However, these are not the subjects the author chose to expound upon, and it cannot be held against him. I really like this book.

A Breath of Fresh Common Sense
This was a Great Book!! I am a person who believes that reality should actually make sense. For some time now, I have been studying the evidentiary support for the current theories of astronomy and astrophysics. This has been increasingly frustrating as time and time again illogical conclusions (and subsequent extensions) were made from limited measured evidence. I started to think I must be a genius and all astronomers and astrophysicists were morons...until I read this book.Thank you Mr. Ratcliffe! I am happy to exchange my temporary genius status with the knowledge that there are professionals that can also see that the king is not wearing any clothes. {Now, if all of us who are more interested in developing theories of reality based on logic and current evidence (and not on blind faith of past prophets) could get together...just think what could be accomplished!}Whether or not the case for a 'Static Universe' is made in the end can be debated. But, at the very least, this book proves the need to keep an open mind and not just blindly accept the standard model.Robert Simmons

Is the universe expanding
I'm an engineer. Cosmology is not my field. In general, I accept the standard "story" in any field of science or engineering outside my own. Therefore I've accepted that the universe is expanding, the "red shift" is a doppler effect that gives the velocity of stars running away from us, and the amount of red shift is correlated with their distance from us.Ratcliffe disputes every one of these points. He presents arguments and data to support his disputes. Do I find it convincing? Instead, I find it disturbing. He doesn't sound like a crank. He presents actual data to support his arguments. If what he says is valid, why do cosmologists say the opposite? If he's right, just how much else do I accept from those guys over in the other departments, which isn't true either? This book will shake up your thinking, but right or wrong, it's worth reading. Even if ultimately wrong, the details are right, and they raise questions that deserve answers.

Maybe the universe is not so complicated
This was a great read and provides a very interesting and believable concept for the universe that is quite different from the current theroies using dark matter, particles that have yet to be discovered, theories that rely on math instead of observation and even go against real observations. After reading this you may want to read another book about how science is bankrupting itself by making up all sorts of "constants" to make their math equations work without any observation whatsoever.

good science, disappointing ebook
This book is more focused than another volume I read by Ratcliffe. My comments here concern the quality of the Kindle version, which is why I am removing one star. The Kindle version appears to have gone from OCR directly to ebook without any error checking or reformatting. Hyphens are missing, footnotes appear at random places which are obviously the original page breaks of the print version, text styles change at random (a splash of red here, a sudden fit of bold large point text there, etc), there's no indenting or gray boxing around long quotes—it makes for disruptive reading. If Amazon is not responsible for the conversion to ebook, then they should at least be checking the file before uploading it for purchase, and sending it back to the publisher for corrections, if necessary. The beauty of ebooks has nothing to do with the twinkling hardware they are read on. Content is what matters. Make it presentable, please.

End of the Scientific Method
T. Lassagne states "both sides of the static/expanding Universe theorems have good points". But that is precisely the point of this book, they DON'T! The observational evidence clearly shows a static universe, not an expanding one, and that redshift is not an indicator of recessional velocity and hence distance. Which means no Big Bang, no Inflation, no Dark Matter and no Dark Energy. And thank God, since it was obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense that all of the aforementioned fantasies were mere mental inventions to plug the holes in their increasingly untenable BigBang/expanding Universe fairy tale. What astonishes me is how legions of otherwise highly intelligent Physicists are not aware of these observational facts and continue to peddle their Physics Fairy Tales to the World. I just don't get it. Don't they ever look at the physical evidence, or do they spend all their days in some University office immersed in their own imaginations? So much for the Scientific Method. When faced with evidence they don't like, instead of having the courage to admit they were wrong and go back to the drawing board, they just invent a new fantasy that plugs the gap, a new force, or new particle. Then demand billions of dollars to build some pointless contraption to "detect" said fantasy. Nice work if you can get it eh? A neverending supply of money and stable work so long as your imagination doesn't give up. And cosmology is not the only field of physics where the Scientific Method has been abandoned and fantasy reigns. Just take a look at High Energy Particle Physics for more of the same. How sad that post War Physics has turned into the farce it now is, after the likes of Einstein, Dirac, Schrodinger, etc bequeathed such knowledge to their descendants - only for it to be squandered.

Excellent Review of non-cosmological expansion theories
The treatment of Halton Arp for daring to present falsifying statistical analysis of Quasar distribution round active galactic nuclei and quantised redshifts of QSO's should send up a red flag. Science should be about questions and answers should be subject to fearless scrutiny. Good news. Deductive reasoning trumps Inductive malarkey. We may know less than we think we do. Well written and succinct.

Well researched, with strong evidence to "explode the myths"
While this book provides lots of evidence/facts to support a static universe, I found it difficult reading because Hilton takes the "I am right and you are wrong " approach that is also taken by people who believe in an expanding universe. My views are in line with Hilton's so I enjoyed reading all the facts and research he has recorded in the book. But please, let's have a scientific debate about the issues and not take this arrogant approach to dialogue.
