The National Geographic Mega Gemstone Dig Kit is amazing for any kid who loves hands-on activities. My child had a blast digging through the brick to uncover 15 real gemstones, including amethyst, quartz, tiger’s eye, and pyrite. The kit comes with everything needed—a chisel, brush, and magnifying glass—so they can really get into the “mining” experience. The 16-page full-color guide is awesome too, explaining how each gemstone forms and helping kids identify what they find. It’s fun, educational, and kept my little scientist entertained for hours. Highly recommend for a gift or a rainy-day project!

I ordered this kit in a rush and was expecting a bag of gemstones. Upon opening the package, nothing was there except a small brick like thing. Kind of disappointing. Things flipped as my daughter and I found out what we need to do. It was so fun digging out the gemstones one by one, cleaning them up, enjoying the beauty of Nature. Best gift ever from my daughter’s comments.

This is loaded with pretty rocks and my son has fun tearing it to pieces with a hammer.

My 7-year-old son loved this kit! It took him about two hours to finish, and he was completely enthralled the entire time. I did have to wet the clay a little to make it easier to dig through, and I definitely recommend having a container or tray ready because it gets pretty messy. Each time he uncovered a gem, we’d stop to look it up in the little guidebook that came with the kit, which made it even more fun and educational. I paid $19.99, but after seeing that the 50-stone kit is only $23.99, I feel like this one should be priced closer to $15.99. That’s really my only complaint and the reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic hands-on activity for kids who love digging and discovering.

Hours of entertainment and well over 100 gem stones.

This Mega Gemstone Dig Kit was awesome. My 5 year old Grandson is really into rocks. This was the hit of his Christmas gifts. The kit comes with this brick-like gray block that you had to add a small amount of water to. Then he kept using the little chisel they provide to keep digging into this brick and it starts to fall apart very slowly. He was so thrilled when he found those gemstones. He’s been carrying them around since Christmas in a little wooden box. This was by far , well worth the cost. Kudos to National Geographic for a wonderful product. I’m going to buy him a larger kit with more gemstones for his birthday.

Bought as a gift for our new step-granddaughter. We had no clue as to what to buy for her & took a gamble on this. When she opened it, she literally squeezed with joy, shouting “How lucky am I!?” She was so pleased with it she immediately began harvesting her gems. This is ideal for anyone who studies and/or collects gems like this. It’s a great teaching tool.

Kiddo loved this gift! Easy, great fun and enough gems to keep his attention and entertained for about a half hour, then excited to clean off his gems. Keep some water handy to sprinkle on it to soften it for younger kids.

It is extremely fun! I recommend buying it.

The gems were terribly tiny, and two were missing. Not worth it.

This was an absolute hit with my 11 year old. It was so much fun for him to dig for the little gems. I enjoyed the shouts of joy after each and every rock was found. The size of the rocks were good enough. There were lots of varieties and no missing parts. Very educational and the mess was good as it was done in enjoyment. Would absolutely recommended and would be nice if there was more of these with different rocks to dig up.
