Meet Felicity (The American Girls Collection, Book 1) Paperback – September 1, 1991

I’m really exited for the next book.I really really loved this book!Felicity was so very brave. I want to be like her!

So Felicity was my favorite AGD movie to watch when I was little and even now; I love the historical accuracy, plot, and could relate to Felicitys tomboy ways and wishes to reject social standards. The book is very cute and quick to read and I love the informational pages at the ending.

Eight year old girl reads all these books but this is her favorite

I owned a hard copy of this book as a girl, and loved it then too. The book combines an engaging story with a nice look at what life was like in Virginia just before the American Revolution. Felicity wants to rescue a horse from being abused by an alcoholic tanner. At the end, as in all the historical American Girls books, is a "Looking Back" section that describes a lot of features of everyday life in colonial Virginia.There have been minor changes to the dialogue since its original publication in 1991; specifically, Jiggy Nye's language is a bit less "colorful" than it once was. Other than that, this is the same book I fell in love with 20 years ago. If your children like horses or history, they will love this book!

It's a very interesting book I've read it like 20 times now I think it's perfect for people who like horses American girl or the time period it takes place in it should defiantly be rated 5 stars I liked everything about it and if you like the book as much as me I recommend seeing the movie

Love this book and so does my daughter

It’s the book I loved as a kid and I’m so excited for my daughter to read it. However it came covered in Hannah Montana stickers. I was able to remove them but I was a little annoyed.

I really enjoyed reading, "Meet Felicity." The whole story brought the story of American Girl's Felicity Merrimen character and doll to life. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a sweet, historical-fiction story with a courageous role model as a main character.

My daughter loves the book. The cover is nice and it came as brand new without damage. Language is a bit old fashioned but it has to do with the period of the 1700s.

An American Girlシリーズは、各年代毎に一人の少女が登場するシリーズです。この本の舞台は1774年の設定で、Felicityという少女が登場します。私はアメリカ史はそれほど詳しくないんだけど、こういう本を読んでると段々と分かってくるものがある。この頃のアメリカはまだEngland王の配下にあって、幾つかのコロニーで人々が住んでいたんだね。だから、文化的にもEnglandの影響が強くて、『女性はLadyらしく振る舞わなきゃいけない』とか、そういう縛りがまだとても強かった時代。でも、Felicityは外で遊んでいるのが好きで、大股でどんどん歩くのが好きで、だから、コルセットやペチコートで身体が拘束されるのが嫌いで…でも、Felicityは単なるおてんばではなくて、単に自分の心のままに生きたいと思っているだけなんだ。それは、街はずれにある皮なめし工場で、美しいサラブレッドが飼い主に虐待されているのを見た後の彼女の行動に如実に顕れている。プライド高いサラブレッドは、飼い主の男を完全に見下げて、いかに虐待されようとも自分にまたがることを許そうとはしなかった。飼い主の男はそれを分かって、その馬を兵糧責めにしているんだ。『自分に乗せる気になったら許してやる』と。Felicityはそんな状況の中、毎朝早朝に家を抜け出して、エサをもらえないサラブレッドのもとへ走り、食料を与え、その馬と少しずつ心の交流をしていく。そうしてサラブレッドとの間に強固な信頼関係を築き上げたFelicityは、ある日我慢しきれなくなり、大胆な行動に出るのです。

小学校の歴史の副読本として利用されている、アメリカの女の子の生活史シリーズ。　　1764年代のKaya、1774年代のFelicity、1824年代のJosefina、1864年代のAddy、1904年代のSamantha、1934年代のKit、1944年代のMollyを主人公として、それぞれの少女の紹介”Meet ～　”、学習生活”～ Lerns A Lesson”、クリスマスの過ごし方”～'s Surprise”、誕生日”Happy Birthday ～”、日常生活”～ Saves the Day”、その成長”Changes for ～”がストーリー仕立てで読めます。フィクションですが、学習用ですから時代考証がしっかりされていて、小説よりもノンフィクションが好きな方にも楽しめることでしょう。中学３年生レベルの英語、上質な紙、きれいな挿絵入りですらすら読めます。　　主人公の女の子は、ネイティブインディアン、ヒスパニック、黒人奴隷、開拓地の少女、植民地の少女、都会の裕福な家庭の少女などバラエティーに富み、アメリカの多様性を理解するために、大人にも十分読む価値があると思います。アメリカというと男女平等が進んでいる国というイメージですが、植民地時代のアメリカの少女の生活は、あくまでも「女の子らしく」と要求されるものだったことなどは、このシリーズを読むまで知らなかったという人も多いことでしょう。　　巻末にはその時代のアメリカの生活が、写真資料と共に５，６頁でまとめられています。ここを読むと本文中で具体的イメージが浮かばなかった衣服や生活用品がどんなものかわかりますので、先にこちらを読んでから本文を読む方が、わからない単語に煩わされずスムースに読めるかも知れません。　　本書は、独立戦争直前1774年代の少女Felicityの紹介編です。雑貨商の娘Felicityは活発な少女、馬が欲しくてたまりません。皮なめし業のJiggyが素晴らしい馬を手に入れながら、その馬を虐待することに憤慨します。そして夜な夜なこっそり家を抜け出して．．．
