This was a comprehensive and thorough exploration of the process of writing a dissertation from choosing a topic to publication. It includes ample detail on both quantitative and qualitative data, and includes great sections on "student tips". The one thing I wished I had seen more of was better information on how to overcome some of the emotional battles involved. The title implies it's going to be more of a hand-holding book than it is. It's really a statement of facts and examples.. which isn't bad! Everyone responds differently to certain tones. Overall, I would recommend it for any student embarking on this journey (like me). This should have been the text for my "Writing for Publication" course.

I am in the beginning stages of my dissertation and this has been hugely helpful. The beginning and end of the book should be read at the beginning of any phd program and again when you are ready for your dissertation. The middle of the book addresses methods etc, and will be very relevant as I work on my proposal, IRB, etc. I really like the tone and how the authors write ... It's is clear and easy to understand.

I reviewed it as a possible purchase for doctoral students in my training program, and I was disappointed. I though it was a superficial gloss on methods with too little on the process, particularly selecting and managing the committee. Case studies would help as would more attention to the sticky places and how to avoid them/get unstuck. I was expecting something more like A PhD is Not Enough.

I feel that this book is a good guy for students pursuing the DBA or Ph.D. The details laid out in this book makes it easy to understand. This is a good guide.

I believe this book made the difference between me finishing my MSc or giving up. So clearly written and chunks the process, so I felt I was advancing everyday, I was using this like a travel guide.

The book goes from page 276 to 293 and page 316 to 293 and repeats a lot of pages.

It's very a good book for the doctorate !!!
