Digging down into the descriptions for socks advertised as allegedly all cotton invariably brings up percentages of synthetic materials. True all cotton lightweight (as opposed to athletic) socks are harder to weave because of lint issues and require various sizes. These Buster Browns are the real McCoy for all cotton. There is no elastic, the weave at the top of the sock is different from the base and serves as an elastic substitute without the tightness. I still cut off the top, although that leaves a bit ragged edge. I haven't found a men's version of these, so I buy the largest size offered in women's. Typically you would subtract 2 sizes to convert a woman's shoe size to a man's. However, I found the size 12 (shoe size 11-12 women's) to still fit perfectly for my size 11.5 men's feet. Note that lightweight all cotton will shrink severely with heat. I wash these in lukewarm water and hang to dry. These also wear out fairly fast without the added strength of synthetics. I have to replace them after about a dozen wear/washings, at which point a holes begin to develop in the heals. My most recent free shipping first delivery attempt apparently got lost during the 'last mile' from the Amazon facility to the Whole Food's drop hub, and after a few weeks I took the offered refund. The next attempt when through a different facility and arrived in three days.

It is hard to find good quality cotton socks that don't shrink and aren't too restrictive. These socks are great. They don't shrink much at all in the dryer. The best thing about genuine cotton socks is that they don't hold moisture or sweat so food odor is minimized. The material is breathable yet warm and does not dry out the skin. These stood the test in all the above areas and the material is more durable than some of the less expensive cotton socks.That said there is one negative that I noticed with the most recent purchase. This particular brand always seemed to be a straightforward cotton product. But it seems that now the socks come treated with a chemical or chemicals of some sort. The socks has to be washed a few times to get the strange smell and feel of the chemicals out of the material. Once washed a few times they began to have the normal feel and texture of cotton and the odor was gone. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. They are still better than most brands of cotton socks and will last forever.

Beware of the Sizing. These sock, 7.5-9 are the only size they are selling and they come Smaller as I found out by going to another website that sells Buster Brown. Also, They may say 100% cotton but, I believe there is a tiny degree of elastic in them. AND, one pair had a HOLE in them!! Asked to send them back and they told me to keep them, I don’t want them because they are TOO LARGE. They said they will refund my money. I will keep a lookout for that. I don’t trust this company at all.

Size small is still too big

I am older and my ankles swell. I can't wear my old socks because they are just too tight around the top. These socks are so comfortable and forgiving! They stay up without being too tight. I would buy them again.
