Pentair 353251 IntelliFlo IntelliPro Variable Speed Pump Drive

I had an 3.5 year old intelliFlo VS (011018) fail due to rain getting into the drive unit and collecting to the point where it shorted out the entire board. My local pool shop where I purchased the pump from 3.5 years ago, quoted a replacement drive at $1200, which was nearly the cost of the pump I purchased from them. I called Pentair but they "were not aware of any water penetration issues with the intelliflo drive units" despite plenty of online reports describing this issue. It didnt matter because my unit was past the warranty anyways.My options were:-Purchase a brand new standard pump for a few hundred, but then pay more in electricity.-Purchase a two speed pump for a little more to try to achieve some balance between energy efficiency and pump cost-Bite the bullet and purchase a new drive and continue using my existing pump that was plumbed in already.After doing some research, I decided to purchase a replacement drive unit since the rest of the pump was working fine prior to failure. I also didnt feel like replumbing the PVC to the new pump. The drive unit arrived yesterday and I installed it. It was brand new and was a breeze to install. My pump is up and running again and I am one happy customer again.I did notice that the new drive that I purchased has a slightly different design than my original drive. It appears that they have extended the water seal around the keypad and the keypad cover only swings open 90 degrees instead of 180 degrees. I also noticed that the plastic cover does a better job of protecting the keypad from the elements. It makes me wonder why Pentair redesigned the drive keypad and cover seals to better prevent moisture from entering the keypad, when their old design was working just fine?...

System was what it said it would be and was easy to install. My only reservation was the cost. The item is expensive though lower than most of the competition.

Item shipped in a timely fashion however in the box where the 220 volts power wires are connected the plastic piece which forms the pockets that separate the power lines had all the separators broken. See photo. This was not discoverable until I was at the pool site to do the installation. Pentair products really have seen a steep decline in quality.So I have spent $1500 to buy a pump, and another $560 to replace the motor controller since the LED screen went out due to a known defective design. And the replacement assembly arrives with the connection terminal busted. Now I am waiting for the reseller to make it right.

My original pump drive fried - water got into the circuit board area and fried everything. I’m guessing it’s because the cover was left open and over time the keypad degraded enough to let water in.Rather than buying a new pump at $1400 I ordered this. It arrived 2 days later and took about 20 minutes to install, and my pump was working again as though nothing had ever happened.

due to a poor design from the end users perspective, the LED screen often fails.when this happens the entire control unit needs to be replaced. The new unit is functioning well, was easy to install and reprogram. This was the best price I could find for a new unit. Overall the pump is great, just a poor engineering design from the users perspective. Pentair would think it is a good design because the entire unit needs to be replaced.

Due to a flood the circuit board on my pump had a short circuit. This part was so easy to install. It plugs in and then is anchored by 3 screws. My pump runs perfectly now

House was hit by lightning, ordered my drive unit and pool was back running in two days! Great service, easy install!

Pulled off the broken one and put the new one in without any challenge. Did it myself and works like a charm. Also, saved over $500 by doing it myself!
