All windows AC, regardless of brand, perform one function; cool down a space/room. For this review, I am putting installation and operations aside. I am only focusing on the most important aspect to me, the noise level. Based upon the many positive reviews, I purchased a Windmill Air Conditioner Smart Home AC Unit 6000 BTU for a small home office (12ft x10ft). The test setup: Sound measuring device = Samsung Galaxy S6 & Sound Meter app by Abc Apps. Table setup at 8ft directly in front and at the same height as AC. Thermometer = DIGI-SENSE Traceable Wall-Mount Digital Clock/Calendar x2 I began the test by making the room as quest as possible. Everything was shutdown, windows and doors closed and all outside noise within my control were also turned OFF. I measured the room noise level, then set the AC unit to Cool, Fan Low, Fan Medium and Fan High. Results are: OFF (room dB) = 21 Fan Low dB = 49 Fan Med dB = 51 Fan Hi dB = 53 I was surprised and somewhat disappointed to say the least. This was loud. From all the reviews, I thought the noise level should be lower. Windmill Air advertised this to be quiet. It’s louder than my 15 yr. old Whirlpool. Definitely very loud for sleeping. It’s in the office, but I will have to shut it down for virtual meetings or calls. Another note: The temperature gauge is consistently off by about 8-10 degrees. Its reading 63 degrees while the room thermometer is reading 73. This is occurring all the time. The unit shuts down while the room is still warm. My room thermometers are Digi Sense 08610-26 Traceable Wall-Mount Digital Clock/Calendar NIST which are calibrated and compliant for ISO, FDA, and cGMP manufacturing environments. I’m fairly confident that the Windmill Air AC’s temperature control is in-accurate. I have two different brand AC units in the bedrooms which I will put into the same test. More to come…. UPDATE: I have to give a shout out to Windmill Air's customer service. They were very supportive and we went over several debug methods. 5 stars to customer service. The rattling noise was still there after debugging and in the end, they sent me a replacement unit. I put it through the same test as described above. While the rattling noise was gone with the new AC, the noise level itself was not as quiet as expected. The decibels were still the same. I did a comparison with my other two ACs: Midea 8000 BTU U-Shaped and a 15 yr Whirlpool ~1800 BTU. The results are: OFF (room dB) Fan Low dB Fan Med dB Fan Hi dB Windmill Air 6000 BTU 21 49 51 53 Midea 8000 BTU U-Shaped 21 32 35 41 Whirlpool 21 42 49 49 The Midea was truly quiet coming in at 32dBs on low fan setting. Perfect for a bedroom. The Windmill Air is ideally a small office AC and the noise level is acceptable for that purpose. I have upgraded my review to 3 stars for the level of customer service.

I feel so gaslit right now because I did so much research for a good product and everything I saw about the Windmill AC was so positive. I bought two units last year and was so pleased with them. I felt their cooling capacity was actually very good (although now I've seen complaints about it) and the unit was super quiet and small compared to other units. Then fall came around and I was like "ok, time to clean the unit and store it away". The manual and their website say only to clean the absolutely-useless screen filter that every AC unit has and then to wipe down the exterior with some warm water. I thought this was crazy. No matter how well you engineer a product, you're going to get build up and mold on the interior. This is like buying a very fancy toilet that mandates you don't clean the bowl. My partner and I tried to open it anyways but we struggled and gave up. We settled on just vacuuming carefully around the fins/coils. Well, low and behold, the second year of use, one of the units is struggling to cool and my partner is getting super congested every time we run it. I figured there would be more content out there at this point talking about how to clean in, or at least people complaining about it. No. Nothing. I messaged Windmill and told them my issue. They just keep saying to not spray the coils with anything because it could damage the unit... how is this acceptable. They say only "authorized personnel" can open the unit, whatever that means. What is so magical about their unit that it can't be cleaned like every other window unit? I'm willing to accept I got snookered into buying a flashy but poorly-engineered product. But the fact that I can't find *any* negative reviews admonishing Windmill for making a unit that is impossible to maintain makes my blood boil. If it weren't for the lack of ability to clean my units, I'd give this product 5 stars. I want to give it 1 star because I'm so mad but when it's clean, it does perform well.

I was expecting so much more for the price but it didn’t get even as cold as my old air conditioner which I had bought from a used sales website. Very disappointed

I have installed many window air-conditioners after moving from the land of central air to the Mid-Atlantic over 16 years ago. I have installed them in big cities and small cities, first floors to 5th floors. This window air-conditioner is by far the quietest and best-looking I have used. I love the app and the customized time settings I use. I love this air-conditioner so much that after buying two, I replaced another a/c in my kids' room with this unit, replacing one that was not quite dead yet. I love that I can turn the AC preemptively down from my phone if I'm not at home and know I want it even colder than the automatic settings for when I do get home. Like with any window air-conditioner, this is not as quiet as central air, nor will it temperature controled as well. Also, be sure and order the correct BTU for the room in question--- if you have a large bedroom and it gets full western sun and you have faced many 90+ degree days this summer outside, you might need the 8k over the 6k. But it looks really snazzy inside, directs the air UP as opposed to out (so it circulates rooms better if you have a ceiling fan on), and it even looks nicer outside the house. I plan to buy two more of these ACs for the other bedrooms. Definitely recommend it to others.

This AC is excellent. It works extremely well and the best part is I can control the unit from anywhere. When away, I call up the app on my iphone, turn it on, and as usual, I return home and the Windmill AC has done it job! It’s comfortable and cool in here. I appreciate the feature the most. A ‘Thanks’ to the people at Windmill, whom took the design effort to create such a great product.
