I don't know about the 6001 but I have a 7001 and I can tell you to stay away from that one

Where is the paper tray or alternate feed on this printer?

The blank paper goes in the tray on the bottom of the printer. There isn't an alternate or "bypass" feed.

Can I print on fabric? I want to make a quilt using pictures.

It may be more nuanced than this. I have printed on fabric with other HP inkjet printers- you need to use special fabric that is on a paper backing (recommended if you are printing photos b/c it will take the dye better), or adhere your fabric to freezer paper so that it will run through the printer (eg, to use Inklingo to print cutting and stitching lines for hand piecing).

Does it print leagle size

Yes, you can copy and print legal size documents.
