I am or have been an owner of SVS products for many years. These speakers are an excellent value and will provide excellent surround effects while being easy to mount on the wall or stand. The black gloss is a great touch and they look nice. They image fairly well, but have no bass to speak of and are a but thin, but what would you expect from a speaker this size? Although they could be used as the front three of a surround system, I would recommend something a but larger such as an ELAC that can produce more lower tones unless you need something small. For surround and a smaller footprint these are good, but don't forget that many surround formats now include LOTS of information including bass, so the days of Dolby Pro Logic and "Effects" coming out of your side or rear surrounds are gone. There is full depth and musicality coming from the surrounds. The ELAC for a similar price (Debut) would provide more overall if you can handle the fact that they are bigger.

These speakers are the real deal. The build quality is solid—you can tell they put a lot of thought into the design. The cabinet is super well-made, and the grille and baffle setup help the sound come through clean and clear. The sound quality is exactly what you want—crisp highs from the aluminum dome tweeter and smooth, balanced sound overall. The crossover does a great job blending the tweeter and woofer, so there’s no weird gaps in the sound. Everything just flows, whether you’re listening to music or watching movies. What I really like is how neutral and accurate the midrange sounds. No weird resonances or muddiness, just a really honest sound that lets the music (or movie) speak for itself. If you’re looking for high-quality speakers that won’t break the bank but still deliver top-tier sound, these are a solid choice. I’m definitely happy with them!

I bought these because they were rated “planar magnetic,” in a search. I had SUPERIOR experiences with planar magnetic headphones. The headphones recommended 150 HOURS of run-in time. I found them crisp, but quiet (hard to drive?) at first, but after only about 48-60 hours of run-in, they developed a warm, round, full bass response, and easily deceive the ear that the performance is by a much bigger, if hidden pair of speakers. Equalizers and “effect” settings (such as “opera Hall,” and “rock concert,” as well as plain vanilla stereo,) BOTH had far more significance with these peerless speakers than with JBL bookshelf speakers. By all means buy bigger ones for larger (than 150 watts/ 0.06% THD - could be better I know) amplifiers, but DO NOT OVERLOOK Planar Magnetic. You WON’T regret them! Worth the money!

They were purchased like new but were brand new to my surprise in the box which saved me 25%. SVS speakers are very nice if you have AVR receivers to complement with and I also have SVS Surround Ultra which is a very nice setup with Dolby sound.
