Excellent book for any budding or seasoned entrepreneur or small business owner / prospective small business owner! Mr. Gerber's thinking is right on point with the minds of Entreprenuers, so of course he is very enlightening on "what to do about it" -- i.e., how to prevent your small business from failing. Ultimately, you must develop an excellent plan / prototype before launching your business, for it is the technician in most of us that causes our small businesses to fail as we end up getting consumed with production and trying to do it all ourselves. The better approach is to focus on being the CEO and customer service after developing a solid system / prototype so as to better balance the management, innovation, and production of our company, and to hire employees as well -- i.e., better to go bigger in order to attain the freedom we all desire, rather than to try to maintain a smaller operation where we do it all ourselves because nobody can do it all. EXCELLENT, ENLIGHTENING BOOK that I am utilizing to alas, launch the business I've been contemplating for some time and held back because I didn't want it to be too all consuming!

This book came highly recommended to me from a client that owns multiple pizza establishments, international check cashing establishments and several other businesses. He said this book will show you how unorganized you are no matter how organized you are. He was more than correct. This book will change the way you view your business and force you to reevaluate how you structure and organize your business. Is your business a job? Is your business who you are? It shouldn't be. This book will show you why and give you the "eyes" with which to see your business in a different perspective. My mother is a real estate broker and she read this book and said to me "Why did I just now find this book?!". Buy this book. Its one of the very few books I've given to people and have offered to buy them if they will read it.

This book really taught me allot of the small missing details of running my own companies. Now that I have read the book we at SIK MONIE ENTERPRISES have no choice but to run the company as instructed in the book. We are currently creating all the system's that will run themselves in the future!The colors are correct too. I hadn't thought of the color things discussed in the books for marketing. Now they all make sense to me. This is not a “high-brow book. It is written so anyone can understand it especially if you have a basic understanding of business.

Finally read this Classic and can't believe it took me so long. Gerber is simply...outstanding! At 68 and 40+ yrs in financial services...I've read dozens of business books the past 40+ yrs & cannot recc it more highly. Likely the best I've ever read. Get & study the updated "Revisited" edition. You will not be sorry you found Michael E. Gerber! Now reading several other of his books.

If you are thinking of owning a company, have a company that's really small or if you do all the income producing work you NEED to read this. It was written in 1986 and it's as if he knows me and my company intimately. It's eery.For those of you who are successful entrepreneurs this isn't for you.It's for the guy or girl who is a dynamo at their job who thinks or thought running a business was going to be basically the same. It's not and read the book to find out.

If you are in business for yourself, or every aspire to be, this is a MUST-read. You need to know the difference between true entrepreneurship, and the "entrepreneurial myth" (The "E Myth") that governs most impulses by would-be business owners. Well written, accessible, and full of ideas you can put to work immediately. This is by far the best book for the small business owner ever written, still, to this day.

Easy to understand, fundamental insight. A non fluff business book, what a concept! Recommended for any entrepreneur, young or old.
