I have had my Color Wow Root Cover Up since May, 2014 and use it frequently, maybe once a week, and still have a majority of it left. I love it. It blends in well with my color and I can wait 3 times as long to apply color to my hair by using it. I highly recommend this product. I'm sure the one compact of powdered color will last me a full year if not longer.

Trying to figure out which to get the medium brown or dark brown? Any suggestions on how to choose?

I use this to cover silver / grey roots (80% +) in the front of my head. I color to a dark blonde (level 6-7). I opted to go medium brown rather than dark blonde in this product, assuming the very light roots would lighten up the medium brown Color Wow. It is a great match and so happy with my choice; I have extended my root coloring by 2+ weeks using this product.

What are the ingredients in this product? Has it been evaluated for toxicity by a group like Skin Deep?

does this wash out of your hair in the rain? How many uses in the compact?

My hair hasn't been rained on. It has been snowed on and it didn't rinse out. It completely washes out during a shampoo. I don't know how many uses in the compact. I would think it varies according to how much outgrowth there is My sister has had hers about 6 months & does not have to reorder yet.She uses it about 3 times a week
