Good cleaner, but you may need ear defenders
Our much loved and abused Dyson DC05 finally gave up the ghost after twelve years of trusty service and so the quest began for its replacement. I looked at all the usual suspects like Miele,Vax and Hoover, but after examining them in the flesh and weighing up the pros/cons, I decided to stick with the Dyson. The first thing I noticed is that the cylinder capacity is about 20% bigger and that the main telescopic brush arm is made of thick plastic, unlike the stainless steel one of the old machine. No doubt this is a cost cutting exercise given the rising price of metals, but there doesn't seem to be any decrease in its weight compared to the steel, and oddly the plastic seems to attract dust and fluff to its surface which is a nightmare to clean off. There is also a moulded sword type handle, whereas on the old machine you just held the main tube, but to be honest the handle is just too flimsy to get a decent grip when using it with one of the two supplied cleaning attachments, which again have been subject to a cost cutting regimen and shrunk in size. One of the attachments is a combi-tool that replaces the crevice tool and brush by an innovative little design, where one piece slides over the other to use either function. It is novel, but unfortunately rubbish, compared to the old DC05 individual tools, which are far sturdy and more up to the job.Now over to the cleaning performance and this is where it really comes into its own and shows up the old machine for the dinosaur it had become, with more suction power than a Nevada whorehouse. The only downside is that it actually tore up three vinyl tiles from the bathroom floor on first use, which really made my day....Aside from the design modifications mentioned above, the biggest drawback with this machine is the noise it makes, which is VERY LOUD compared to any other vacuum cleaner I have owned and Dyson could do with supplying ear defenders as standard kit. Obviously the suction power has to be generated somehow, but surely the boffins in HQ could have improved this wasteful conversion of energy?Needless to say, I am not impressed with respect to the tool design mods of the DC19 over the old DC05, but there's no doubt that it's cleaning performance is better, despite being to the detriment of my hearing. I was hoping that I'd be able to swap the old hose and attachments onto the new machine, but alas they are not cross-compatible due to a different tube diameter and fitting. If it lasts as long as the old machine then I'll be one happy bunny. Of course only time will tell, but at least the 5 year guarantee brings good peace of mind.

First Dyson ever
Ok its very expensive for a vacuum but I can see what all the hype is about.1. Suction is very good and it appears to remain consistent. I have a wool-weaved carpet and hair stuck in between the weave would not be picked up by my bagless Vax of a similar power. However, this Dyson does suck up more of this kind of obstinate dirt.2. Design is amazing. By far, far and away, the best thing. I think it is worth paying twice as much for it. It is all plastic yes, but high quality and nicely finished. The way the connecting accessories click, the buttons are shaped and coloured is all part of the vacuum's impressive design.3. 5 year guarantee for parts and labour. No brainer. Most vacuum's wont last this long and it makes sense to buy this if it is supposedly guaranteed to work for 5 years!4. Easy to empty. I can best describe it as emptying a blender. You lift the lid off and tip over the 'jug' into the bin. Very easy and you can prevent a plume of dust being created.Worth the money!

My cleaner couldn't use it
The machine is stashed in the closet. My old cleaner didn't want to use it and the new one also prefers the Miele. I will likely pass it on to the kids when they get places of their own. Perhaps not a total waste of money.

am I happy? hmmmm
I had one of the early Dyson's which I absolutely loved. Alas, It died on me at one stage and after 5 other vacuum cleaners I was longing for another Dyson. I did a lot of research as well as asking friends about theirs. At last I ordered my new Dyson, DC19T2 for our Christmas. It is great, but it is clumsy, the tube is bigger, the handle is clumsy in a woman's hand, the hose is clumsily attached to the main body of the vacuum cleaner, which makes it difficult to follow you properly. All in all: I am disappointed in this machine. But does it hoover the dirt? Of course, it's a Dyson!!!!

recharging
The supplied wall-mount is faulty - the mains cord gets trapped so the low voltage supply input can't engage properly end charging is interrupted. I. had to buy a separate charging unit - GORVELL 26.1V AC Adapter Vacuum Cleaner Battery Charger for Dyson V6 V7 V8 DC58 Cordless Absolute Motorhead Animal Power Supply,UK Plug

A good investment
After considerable research in to vacuum cleaners I settled on this one. It has not let me down. I purchased this about 10 months ago, after the cost of replacement bags for my old hoover was getting too expensive. I decided I wanted a Dyson as they are bagless and I have only really heard good things about them.My criteria for a new vacuum was this:Needs to withstand daily use, needs to be able to cope with multiple surface types- our house had carpeted, wooden and stone tile floors, it needed to be up to the job of picking up pet hair as well as the usual household dust. This model seemed to be able to cope with all of that and the reviews were mainly positive so I went ahead and purchased it.After just one use the house felt cleaner, the amount of dust and hair collected was incredible!10 months later and one house move later I'm still just as pleased with it, it still gets daily use- sometimes twice a day when the dog is shedding. and it's still performing incredibly well.A few other reviewers have commented on the weight. This wasnt an issue for me before, but our new house is bigger with an extra flight of stairs and so yes, I would agree its pretty heavy, but that said, you need a powerful motor to be able to perform so well. The only other gripe is the 'T' piece doesnt stay in place when the hoover is in storage, the clasp is pretty weak and so it often hits the deck if you knock it slighty, that said its a small price to pay for a great vac, I'd buy another without hesitation.
