Perfect for failing gas struts on 2003 Expedition
To my knowledge, the gas struts on my 2003 Expedition could be the original ones that came on the car. I've had it over 10 years and haven't changed them, but they were starting be not hold the rear hatch up as well as they used to. Rather than waiting for them to completely fail and cause injury or broken glass, I swapped them out with these in just a few minutes.A few notes about the installation: Get something or someone to hold the hatch open while you are removing the old struts. I used an old 2x4 and replaced one strut at a time. Be careful when removing the metal arm holding the struts in a slightly compressed state. They pop off with a lot of force - aim them at something you don't like and want to get rid of. Make sure the strut ends aren't binding. Mine didn't quite line up as they came out of the package, and trying to rotate them reached the end of the threads and I didn't want to over tighten it, so I backed it off nearly one rotation and used that placement. With these thoughts in mind, it really is pretty easy to install them in just a few minutes. The strut body is a little shorter than the outgoing unit, but the extended length is the same. They function perfectly as well as the previous ones, and the quality looks very good. I hope they hold up for another 10+ years!

Excellent! Fit my '08 Ford Expedition
These fit and work great on my '08 Ford Expedition. I bought this vehicle in 2018 and it is our family's road trip vehicle. The seller told us that the lift gate always worked but was slower to raise than when he first bought it. We didn't have any issues with the liftgate until this past January when we drove our Expedition from Texas to Colorado. We experienced below 0-F temps and the liftgate would not stay up when we tried to load/unload our ski gear.I installed these new lift rods in about 5 minutes by myself and with the included small flat bladed screw driver. I have swapped this type of gas rod on several different type of vehicles in the past. The key to a quick install to only pry the clip on the new rods up enough clear the ball socket. Do not remove the clip completely, just make sure the clip is not obstructing ball socket area. Once you have the new rod in place, simply push the clip back in with your fingers/thumb and lock it in place. Then give it a tug to make sure it is secured. Some people may need a helper to hold the liftgate up, or use a pole or prop rod as the liftgate is quite heavy and needs to be fully lifted/extended to install the new rod. I am tall, so this was not an issue for me.I haven't had a chance to test in cold weather, but the light gate now opens in half the time as before. This set should fix slow lift issues and cold weather no-hold issues. Nice product and good pricing. Worth it!

Does NOT fit a 2003 Ford Expedition
The description says that this fits a 2003 Ford Expedition, they do not, the strut rods are too long. The top connected to the ball joint easily, if the struts were the correct length for the vehicle it would have taken less than 5 minutes to install.

My tailgate is no longer trying to decapitate me. Priceless!
There’s nothing more wonderful than having to drive around with a 2 x 4 in the back of your truck to hold open the rear door when you go to put something inside. On numerous occasions the board has slipped, and the hatch has tried to cut my head off (or hands, arms, fingers, etc.). However, I have replaced pneumatic hood struts before and it’s been… problematic. I figured “what’s the worst that could happen, I lose a limb?“ and went for it. These are high-quality black struts, same exact size as the OEM ones (22 years old), nice and strong. Shockingly they were much easier to install than the ones I had done previously. Maybe five minutes and now the hatch is actually hard to close because the struts are so stiff. I love it! Never again (for at least hopefully 22 years) will I have to worry about losing a limb when loading the back of my truck. They work well, are a little noisier than the worn out ones that were there before, but not horribly so. And you can’t beat the price, which is much less than in a brick and mortar store. Recommended!

Great Solution for a Sagging Tailgate
First - yes this fits a 2005 expedition perfectly. Also to clarify, this strut is for the tail gate, not the window. As to the item itself, I included pictures of the box and instructions, along with a comparison of the aftermarket unit and my oem unit as well as the end result.Installation definitely requires two people. I would not risk doing this installation by yourself as the tailgate unit is quite heavy. If you have to do it yourself, then make sure you have the proper equipment, like poles and/or rope to hold tailgate in the open position. That said, you really do only need a screwdriver to loosen the brackets that pinch the ball ends of the struts onto the tailgate. After installation, the tailgate becomes effortless to open. I also have to add that if you've been getting noises while driving, it's likely because of a bad strut. A heavy tailgate will wear against the weatherstripping over time and it's that fitment that will ultimately causes squeaks while you're driving. I noticed the cabin was immediately quieter after doing this job, so added benefit!

Tailgate Struts Fit, Lift, Quiet
This was not my first strut replacement. With this set, I finally learned that installation is simpler with a second person. Otherwise, all that’s needed is a flathead screwdriver. Just pop the clips and swap the struts. Now my tailgate opens smoothly and stays lifted. This a good quality strut and a perfect fit. They function as described. I like them.
