Fits great on my doorways. Sturdy materials to support a large person.
There are so many reviews of the Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar that I don't know what else I can say, other than the reports of this product's great quality are not exaggerated. After having read several reviews, good and bad, I knew that I needed to establish that my door frames were the right width for the workout bar so I measured the door frame width and the thickness of the molding on the upper part of the door. The door frame was about 32" wide and the molding just under 1/2" thick - which seemed to be right for this product based on the reviews of others, so I ordered it. The Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar arrived a day earlier than estimated in great condition. There were no signs it had been tampered with or previously opened. It came with the useless "Free Mail in Ab Strap" offer. But since the shipping and handling is $8 and you can get ab straps at Wal-Mart for just as cheap, there was no incentive there. Assembly was very easy. The bolts fit into place with no problems. Previous reviews that mentioned the little wrench that was included being of poor quality were correct. Having read those reviews, I didn't expect much out of it. I hand tightened the bolts in place then used the included wrench to tighten gently without over-stressing the tool. But, still, by the time I was done, it was beginning to warp and wear out. It's a one use only implement, I'm afraid. I finished up tightening using a wrench of my own. Once assembled, I placed it in the doorway to a back room in the house. It held in place just fine and fit square on top of the door frame and flush against the wall on the door hinge side. The pull up bar's padded ends fit square against the door frame with no overhang - just the right size. I was nervous when actually putting my weight on it. I weigh just over 220 lb. I feared the crackling sound of wood moving and breaking and drywall disintegrating. I slowly started putting my weight on the workout bar. No crackles, snaps or pops. It held me and allowed me to do 3/4 of a pullup (I'm a work in progress), a complete chin up and several negative motions. I also just hung from it several times. There was a slight blemishing of the paint on the wall just above the frame - but I can only blame my weight and the materials used in my home's construction. It's not the fault of the workout bar. It's sturdy materials did their job - there was no bending of the bar that I could notice as I tested it out. Time will tell what kind of padding I might need to supplement the placement of the bar. All in all, this is a great piece of equipment. People need to measure their door frame's width and thickness before purchasing the workout bar and assess the quality of their location's construction. P.S. I did not find the metal clip/door frame wedge included in the package to be necessary.

All you need from a pull-up bar.
Intro: I'm a college student with a very tight schedule that I have to stick with so going to the gym and paying for a membership is very time consuming and something I'd rather not do. However I have this bar at my parents home and bought another pull-up bar (different brand) to use currently while in school but they're essentially the same. Product: The Iron Gym Total Upper Body Workout Bar is what I needed for my home workout routine. (If your curious of the regiment I follow, Google AskScooby.) The item was very easy to build and it hangs solidly on my door frame with no worry of it slipping off or breaking while using it. I weight about 150~170 (Been a few months since I lasted checked a scale, also have been bulking up and converting fat to muscle.) and have had no fear of it not being able to support my weight when doing my pull-ups and push-ups(Advertised for 300 lbs). Also it fit perfectly on my door frame (Remember to check before you buy, it's in the description that it fits on residential doorways 24 to 32 inches wide, with doorway trim or molding up to 3.5 inches wide. Now with the good comes the bad: I know I shouldn't pick at it, but the grips itself feel flimsy, after a few uses it started tearing. Now it's not that big of a deal since it's there for comfort and it still is on there doing it's job. The second flaw is it DOES damage door frames. This is from the pressure of your weight on the bar. To avoid this put towels where the wall and bar connect (What I do). Now for $25 it may be expensive for a workout bar, however the quality is worth the price as my 3 weeks of use (Left it at parent's home as said before) with it it served me well. Pros: + Easy to construct + Easy to use + Feels solid Cons: - May not have all screws/bolts. (Mine didn't but that's a simple $2 fix by going to Home Depot/Hardware store.) - Damages door frame. (Like I said, put hand towels in between the bar and door frame and it shouldn't cause any problems. - Grips tear easily (Personal thing) Overall: I enjoyed using the product and would recommend it to anyone wanting to do home workouts. I give the product a 5/5.

It works, but...
Definitely listen to the person that said to measure the doorframe, but you will want to measure the OUTSIDE of the frame as well. If I attempt to use this in a couple of rooms in my semi-narrow hallway, it is too wide. My hallway is somewhat narrow (the house was built in '60's) and goes just outside a 2" doorframe. Fortunately, I have other places to use it where it fits fine. Assembly wasn't too difficult for me since I'm good at figuring things like that out, but there are no real formal directions for assembly. Only a diagram that tells you to assemble according to the diagram. I could easily see someone having a little difficulty if do-it-yourself isn't your forte. It does feel pretty secure and sturdy. However, doing abdominal pull ups, you should spring for the arm devices you can send away for, for an additional $8 S&H. Though they are advertised as "free", whatever. Without them, it is pretty hard on your hands to do that exercise and most women can probably forget it unless you buy them or find something else to use as the same function. A word of fitness caution: you may find that you actually need some work prior to doing chin ups. This has absolutely nothing to do with the manufacture or function of this item. It functions as promised, but if you have no other way to test if you even CAN do everything you are supposed to with this, there is a good chance you can't and while it can be used for sit-ups or push ups as promised, I'll bet you can do those without this equipment. So in short, it isn't for everyone and unless you have other work out methods, chances are this isn't worth the expenditure and will end up collecting dust. If you already know your limitations, work out regularly and are simply looking for an inexpensive, convenient way to bring some bits of the gym home with you, go for it. Well worth it in that case. If you are buying because you convinced yourself that once you buy this, all those pounds will disappear you'll be "ripped" per the advertising, do the simple inexpensive things at home or join a gym first to see what works for you and if you would even use it. I work out regularly with a treadmill and a bow flex and I think this is probably going to collect more dust than it is worth for me. My arms are not so large (nor do I want them to be) as to really be capable of doing chin ups, or at least not for a long while yet. It isn't worth the expense strictly for the push ups and sit ups, and I have to buy the extras to do pull ups.

Worth every penny to no end.
Pro: Cheap price: For $22, you get way more than what you paid for. Easy assembly: The assembly instruction in the manual is very lacking, but the assembly itself is as easy as it gets. There are four screws, two short and two long ones. Short ones go on the top part and long ones go to the bottom part. Tighten them up and the assembly is finished. The whole process can be finished within 10 minutes, assuming you are not doing facebook, texting, and/or watching TV at same time. Durability: The pull-up bar is as durable a $22 product gets, if not more. The real problem is whether your door frame can handle the bar and your weight. Keep the receipt and the shipping box in case your door frame does not like the pull-up bar. Easy installation: The installation is quick and easy. Insert a pin into your door frame for extra support and place your assembled pull-up bar onto the door frame. Done. That's it for the installation. Wasn't that easy? Quick and easy installation is probably the pull-up bar's biggest selling point. All you need to install it is a door frame, and most people have a door in their home and a door frame with it. If your door frame is in the range of 1-2 inches, I believe your door frame is suitable, but I'm not making any guarantees. At least my door frame is in that range, and the pull-up bar is serving me very well. Con: Compatibility: The biggest con that will turn you away from this product will be the compatibility. A quite a number of people commented the pull-up bar was not compatible with their door frame. Although they are minority, it is enough to get you uncomfortable with the purchase, and you should be since you might be the unlucky one. The maker of the product did not specify what sort of condition a door frame has to be to support the pull-up bar, a very sloppy job in describing their product. Keep your receipt and shipping box handy in case the pull-up bar proves to be worthless. If you need a reference, my door frame is 1-2 inch think and not what I would call "very sturdy". If your door frame is 1-2 inch thick and firmly installed, I believe your door frame is ready to go, but I'm not making any guarantees. Compact: It sits on the top of a door frame. Thus, it takes very little space. Not for tall people: My height is 5'5", rather short and I can get a good hold of installed pull-up bar just by raising my arms. In other word, the pull-up bar is not installed very high. Since it is installed by resting on top of a door frame, the height of the pull-bar can't be adjusted either. Tall people would be touching ground with their feet every time they go down durable their pull up, which can be very uncomfortable, unless they hold their legs up during their pull-up, which can be very awkward. But then again, only full blown pull-up bars will provide pleasant experience to tall people and those cost a fortune, and they take up quite a bit of space as well. So you have to pick your poison. Will it be affordable, but uncomfortable one or comfortable, but expensive one? Other thoughts: I think it's ironic that compatibility is the biggest fault when easy installation is the biggest selling point. Credibility of the review: NOT VERY MUCH. I had the pull-up bar for only couple of days and wrote this review because I thought it deserved some attention. But as I believe a good review is based off at least 1 month of extensive use and 1 year of daily use, I myself don't consider this review as a through and extensive review. Use this review only as a reference and take everything with a grain of salt.

Great workout tool, but even better for high energy kids
This is a great product. It's been used for about 5 months, with no visible wear to the grips or the door trim. No installation involved! It is very sturdy - suitable for adults and children. We only use it hung up in a doorway, though it is also designed to be used for floor exercises. It's used many times every single day, by my son who gets sudden bursts of energy and needs a quick, convenient outlet for them. Lacking arm strength, he typically does flips, rather than pull ups, but it still depletes his energy (and strengthens his core) so it's a WINNER! The door will not shut while this is hanging in the doorway, but that is easily rectified by lifting the pullup bar up to remove it. There is a safety clip that gets inserted into the trim that runs along the top of the doorway, but this clip in no way contributes to the strength of the bar when it is in use, or the stability of the bar when it is not in use (as long as it isn't bumped). It is merely used to make sure that when the bar is removed, it is not removed by rocking the bar backwards, because that would cause it to fall on you if not for the presence of the little clip. It may look flimsy, but it is more than enough to get the job done, and I love how it does not need to be hammered or screwed or in any other way installed into the door frame. It simply slides in and out. Take it out when you take the bar down, because it will fall out without the bar to keep it in place. To remove the bar from its position in the doorway, you simply stand on the side of the doorway where the safety clip is installed and lift the bar straight up and over the clip. Already supporting the weight of the bar, there is no danger of it falling on you!

Just about perfect so far.
Just what I needed. And the price that I paid on Amazon was actually more affordable than Walmart and a couple of dollars less than it is now. So I guess I ordered mine at the right time, a time where Amazon was feeling a little generous I guess. I've only had this item for like 40 mins, and I had a good feeling about it from the start. Assembly was pretty simple(took about 10-12 mins), and all parts were there except for the ab straps which I don't really need anyway; because with this I can easily improvise. It fits nicely above the closet doorway which is about 2.5 ft wide or about 2ft. 7in., and it holds my weight very well; I'm 180. I still have yet to try it out on a wider door frame, but I'm sure that it will fit above the other doors as well. A very nice tool for fitness enthusiasts and a great way to build strength and muscle when the dumb bell set just isn't enough anymore. A very nice and affordable gift for someone who likes to workout a lot. I've been wanting a chin up bar for a long time, and now I finally have one and I love it. It's so easy to use, another plus. Iron Gym is my new best friend. Highly recommended. Money well spent, what more can I say? ***UPDATE*** After trying this product on 3 different doorways, it works on all 3 and each are different widths. However, I did notice how it will leave small indentations in the side molding of the door frame and sometimes black scuff marks on the paint. The foam grips and padding seem like they might last for a couple of months, but I do intend to improvise when they wear out. I'm about to place a thin piece of padding in between the frame of the door to prevent more serious damage, because I do believe with heavy usage the Iron Gym will do further and more noticeable damage to the door frame. Thinking about my weight, the natural effects of wear and tear and my passion for working out; I'm going to have to take certain measures to ensure that I do not cause serious structural damage to the door frame. This will probably do damage even quicker with heavier people, so keep an eye on the condition of your door frame after every workout. Other than that, it's still a great product that I intend to use every day.

Ok if it fits
This one didn’t fit my doorframe and isn’t adjustable. Seems sturdy if it fits yours.
