From the era of silent movies through present day, Universal Pictures has been regarded as the home of the monsters. The Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection showcases all of the original films featuring the most iconic monsters in motion picture history including Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Starring some of the most legendary actors including Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, Lon Chaney Jr., Claude Rains and Elsa Lanchester in the roles that they made famous, these films set the standard for a new horror genre with revolutionary makeup, mood-altering cinematography and groundbreaking special effects. Featuring hours of revealing bonus features, these landmark movies defined the horror genre and are still regarded as some of the most unforgettable characters ever to be filmed. Review: A near-perfect collection - The Universal Classic Monsters are among the finest cinematic masterpieces ever to grace the screen, and this collection represents a must-have in the libraries of both horror fans in particular and cinema fans in general. In fact, one could call it a near-perfect collection. To be sure, not all of these classic films are as fine of masterpieces as the most famous of them. We all know Dracula, Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the others, but we don't necessarily remember all of their sequels. Partly that's because the sequels don't quite live up (with a few exceptions) to the original films. But at the same time, the entire Universal Monsters franchise is so foundational to cinema horror that it's worth revisiting and remembering even the weaker entries in the collection (even the weakest of which is still quite a good film). The collection itself is the perfect addition to any horror film library even though it has a couple quirks. For one thing, this boxed set is just a repackaged collection of each individual monster's collection, which results in a couple of the films being duplicated within the collection. For example, the films House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein appear in both the Dracula and the Frankenstein cases because both monsters appeared in those films. That's certainly not a flaw in the collection (and one could even argue it's a virtue, because it means each monster's case is complete in case you wanted to watch through the entirety of one monster's films in order), but it does indicate that the discs themselves don't contain anything new to this particular collection that you wouldn't already have if you'd purchased the individual monster collections earlier. The one thing that is unique to this collection is the small booklet containing some of the history of the Universal Monsters. While I bought the collection for the movies and not for the extra booklet, I was quite pleased to find it's actually a well-produced little document and it was a pleasure to read through some of the history. Arguably the only flaw in the collection is that it takes certain liberty with the word "complete." For instance, this collection does not contain Lon Chaney's 1925 silent The Phantom of the Opera, though it does contain the 1943 technicolor remake starring Claude Rains. However, while it may not be complete by the strictest definition, it is certainly a near-complete collection, and well worth owning. It would make a perfect gift for any horror fan. Review: A fantastic addition to any collection - Fast delivery and good quality. What can I add to everything that has been said about these movies? This box is a must for collectors who love the Universal Monsters. It's packed with special features, although the booklet could have been better. For the price I paid—it was on sale—it’s a fantastic addition to my collection.

Love the classics.
Finally added them all to my collection. Great picture and bonus features. They are all here and looks like the Abbot & Costello meets Frankenstein and House of Frankenstein are they only movies you'll find in every collection. Trying to buy each one was more expensive, and the Phantom being the hardest one to get, this cuts all that out.

Great collection
I wish it would've come with the silent film version of Phantom of the Opera, but it's still an incredible collection well worth the money. I'm working my way through them and so far the bluray image quality is fantastic. No complaints

Check for loose discs when it arrives
Amazing movies, and a handful that I had never seen before. Be sure to at least check the discs for scrapes and errors in case any were loose in the case. 5 discs were loose in their case. Some ended up being scratched and would not play through. Unfortunately Amazon no longer has the option to replace, so had to return and buy again. Getting the collection for 60 bucks out the door seemed too good to be true, but even paying 108 for it is still more than worth it.

Universal Monsters 30 Film Blu-ray Set
I'm very happy with the quality of the picture, it's so good they almost looks like a new black & white films! House of Frankenstein appears 3 times in the different sets, which is kind of overkill. I do wish they included more of the Abbott and Costello films and maybe the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera as a companion to the 1943 film as part of the set. Could be I'm just OCD but overall, this is a great set on bluray.

I grew up in the '80s and '90s watching so many classic horror films. At the time, I always loved the more recent films like Nightmare on Elm St, The Fly, The Thing and so on. But I also grew quite a love for the classic '50 scifi and Hammer films. The one thing I never saw much of as a kid and was always considered quite a treat was when there was a Universal film on the television. Seeing the greats like Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi was something I looked forward to and to now have them here in one box is a dream come true. In terms of quality and class, nothing could ever beat the original Universal Monster movies (though, Hammer did a great job at trying). Equipped with so many great characters like Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, The Invisible Man etc, this film series has always been something that I (and many others) have cherished. From great set pieces, incredible special effects for the time and fantastic intimidating bad guys, these now ancient films are still a blast to watch. They're so unique by today's standards that it's hard not to fall in love with them. Especially when compared to what is considered "Horror" by modern standards. Each one of the classic Universal films are now collected and packaged into this tremendous box-set titled, Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection. It's a hefty little product featuring all the Universal Monster movies in one large box. Each monster gets its own hard plastic case housing multiple discs, all of which are held together in a reasonably strong cardboard sleeve. These are the same collections you can buy separately through Amazon etc, some of which I think are now out of print (looking at you Dracula). It's a fine looking collection to own. It isn't large by any means and certainly has no weight to it. It looks good on the shelf next to others films. There'd really be no need to go through each one of these films, especially considering how many there are in the box-set. What I will say is that these films have all been very well looked after and cleaned up to incredible standards. Considering the oldest films in the box are nearing one hundred years old and have barely a mark on the film print. The image for the films are clean, crisp and have a lot of depth to them. I think anyone seeing these films for a first time or haven't seen any in a while, will be very surprised at just how good these films look. They're fine evidence that good old black and white can be gorgeous to look at. As for sound, well it's typical to expect less than perfect quality. The dialogue and soundtracks are a bit hit or miss being quite grainy and coarse in places. Some of the older films are a little more worse for wear but considering the technological limitations of the time, I'm not going to pass judgement. You can only do so much with 90 year old audio tracks and it's a miracle that they sound as good as they do. Especially when you consider the poor treatment films from the '60s etc have received by comparison. If you're planning on buying any of the Universal Monsters box-sets, I recommend forking out for the whole series. There are so many great films in this box that it is hard to not justify getting it all in one go. Sure, you may end up with a few duplicates but it's a more tactful purchase overall. It's also worth noting for people in the UK etc this US box-set most certainly works on Region B bluray players. I bought mine from Amazon.com and haven't had any issues whatsoever. I would happily say that this is one of the finest box-sets I own and I couldn't recommend it more.
