It is up to the car , if your car is high level smart vehicle, data may lose if cut all the power , but not 100% sure (we tested some cars) , better ask your car company first .

Q: Does manual control switch just engage the solenoid or does it actually bypass it in case the soleniod goes bad?

Engage the solenoid. Sometime remote can't control switch , so we use manual control. If the soleniod is broken, both can't work (i mean remote and manual)

Q: Will it work on a Porsche '97, 911 Carrera?

Better not, i am afraid it will remove all datas of Porsche '97, 911 Carrera. This switch kit is best used in economy cars
