Good introduction to the "old man crazy about painting"
This is one of Taschen's "basics" series of books about well known artists. Like others in the series it is a good introduction to the artist with a biographical essay accompanied by illustrations of the artist's best known work. There are other books that are much more specific and/or in-depth but this is probably the best starting point. The front cover features Hokusai's best-known work, Under the Wave Off Kanagawa (usually known as the Great Wave), which is part of a series of views of Mount Fuji- some of the others in the series are also included in the book. Some of the illustrations are quite small, much smaller than their real-world counterparts, but are reproduced well enough that a good magnifying glass can bring out the details.I have a few of the "basics" series and most of the older ones have dust jackets, but this one was supplied without one. I guess that is an economy measure by Taschen. It doesn't seem to have affected the quality of the book itself.

A classic!
Hokusai is a legendary artist and a main reference in Japanest art. This book features several of his most respected works although I feel that it's too short and could have been a larger volume.

Love it!
I only knew Hokusai from his wave picture, so it's very interesting to see the rest of his work. Well worth it!
