These were just what I wanted. I've been using English placemats for several years and they are easy to clean with a damp cloth and keep nice. I don't have to launder cloth placemats regularly or deal with crumbs going through straw ones. I got a new table and wanted a fresh look (my old were getting a tad worn around the edges.) I looked through all the designs on here and on the Pimpernel website and liked these the best and the price for these on Amazon was much less. These fit my color scheme and decorating. I bought 4, and then 4 more for a set of 8.I highly recommend this type of cork-backed placemat. I first saw them while staying at a B&B in England. I've had the coasters made like this for years. I actually prefer absorbent stone coasters than this style (for cold beverages that sweat), but the placemats are great. Note the size when ordering. I saw someone who had accidentally bought the luncheon size and were not happy. There is a smaller version, that really isn't good for a place setting of full dinner plates and silverware and a glass. I really liked the additional 2 images on the Dans le Jardin luncheon/smaller placemats that came in a set of six, but was glad I was alerted to the size difference. They wouldn't have worked out.

I had bought these placemats many years and have eight of them, but I needed to buy four more. The quality is not the same. I’ve used them for six weeks and they have tons of scratches on them already and they have not been abused and we have no children in the house.I am so disappointed ! whatever they have done They have changed the quality and it has gone downhill drastically.** I was actually still in the return window and I did return them and received my full refund. Pimpernel Dans Le Jardin Placemats - Set of 4 (Large)The Pimpernel Dans Le Jardin Placemats are the greatest. We had an older set of them already, but were planning a French-themed dinner party (complete with some Julia Child recipes) and wanted a second set for the dinner party for 8 guests. They are washable, durable, and ever so charming. The first place I looked was Amazon who never disappoints. They received rave reviews from the dinner guests also.

Love the cork and sealed top easy to clean. Bought this set 15 years ago was surprised to find them again. The cork protects your wood table from heat. The top finish is awesome to just wash with a sponge. Super high quality. Plus I still use the other place mats when we have more than four people.

These mats make a table look happy. They can be used in all seasons alone or atop different colored tablecloths. Right now on my table they're cheery over a faded April Cornell yellow flowered one. As fall approaches I'll switch to deep gold, and red or white for winter. I don't seem to get tired of them after years of use.I'd give them five stars if they didn't chip after awhile and need to be replaced but they're still more water-saving than washing cotton placemats. Just swipe clean after clearing plates.I recently ordered another set. My third, or maybe my fourth?

Beautiful, but they are wearing out after only a month. If the mat gets wet, which is supposed to happen, the paper wrinkles and then eventually comes off, ruining the look. I am disappointed. Perhaps if they had a thicker varnish or coating over these they would last longer for everyday use.Do not buy if you plan to use them as actual place mats. They will work as a decoration only.

UPDATE: I really like the design, so I bought a new set of these and before using them I painted on two coats of Modpodge (the waterproof one) it is cheap and dries quickly. Now I wipe them with a cloth when they get dirty but they dont absorb grease stains anymore. Make sure to coat the edges all around with modpodge or grease can enter from the sides. OLD REVIEW:These are not the quality I am used to from Pimpernel. I have some Pimpernel Place mats that I have had over 10 years that have held up very well and have no staining. But these, I just bought a few months ago immediately started to get surface stains. I think they were not sealed properly. Within a week I started to notice stains that would not wipe off. Now they look dirty all the time because they have small circular stains anywhere someone dropped a little butter or salad dressing and I can't get the stains out they went into the board and are ruining theartwork. I am very disappointed with this purchase.

I absolutely love these placements! So colorful and cheerful. They are a life saver as far as protecting my antique table that I painstakingly refinished. Perfect!
