Barebones Living 12" Cast Iron Kit by Includes 12'' Skillet, 12'' Lid, 12'' Crock, Trivet, Cleaning Mesh

I really love this Barebones Cast Iron Kit! It's gorgeous and clearly built to last even through an apocalypse. I find Barebones cast iron to be on par with, if not better than Lodge. I especially like the crock, which is PERFECT for making bread. The New York Times No-Knead bread comes out perfectly, producing a gloriously crusty, round loaf.The kit arrived in perfect condition. Right out of the box, I scrubbed it with hot water and coarse salt, rinsed, then set on the burner on low until dry. Then I rub Crisco Shortening (I have found it works much better than vegetable oil, butter, etc) over EVERY surface, including the handles, underside, etc. Use a paper towel to gently rub off the excess and buff the pan until it has a blackish shine (don't go too hard, or else you end up with ragged paper towel crumbs all over your cast iron). I never use soap to wash my cast iron, and generally the chain mail included in the kit is enough to take care of any stuck on carbon scraps.The only thing that this kit could benefit from is a silicone handle. Also, keep in mind that cast iron *is* fairly heavy, as the entire kit weighs in at 28.8 pounds.
