Excellent printer, small footprint and easy to setup
I bought this printer to replace my Canon Pixma and I'm very happy with it. It doesn't take up much space and looks good too.The setup was easy. I was sceptical about this having read the reviews but I had no issues whatsoever. You just follow the step by step guide in the HP Smart app. It asks you to press a couple of buttons during the process and conveniently these flash for you to indicate which button to press. The power cord is a little bit on the short side. It measures 140 cms from plug to connector, not allowing for any flex. Depending upon where your plug is located you may need to buy a slightly longer one.The print quality is great and the scan/copy function works very well and is really useful. It's far better than my old printer. This was 5 years old though, so I suspect technology has improved in that time.Printing/scanning from my phone works a treat and is handy. It seems to have a fair few other features as well that I'm unlikely to use, so can't really comment on these. It is possible to use non-HP cartridges - I think. If you wish to do this you mustn't enable HP+ during the app setup. When you accept this free service a code is sent to the printer which locks it to genuine HP cartridges only. You don't have to opt into this though if you don't want to. I think by not agreeing to this you will lose some/all of the smart functionality, which kind of defeats the object.Genuine HP cartridges are circa £18 for a twin pack which is cheaper than I previously paid.I opted to sign up for the instant ink service as I thought it was reasonable at circa £5 per month. They take away the hassle of ever running out of ink and it covers shipping/recycling too. You get 3 months free out of the box and if you use the code 'nfhzgw' during setup you get another month free. You can also cancel the instant ink service at anytime or change the plan, which is good. I'm going to give it a try given it's free for 4 months and decide whether to stick with, or not, then.Overall it's a great little printer that does everything you'd expect. Very pleased with the purchase.Update: After a couple of months use it's still working great, no issues whatsoever with connectivity and print quality. The ink has been delivered in a timely fashion too.Within the HP Smart App there is a section called 'Printables' which is really useful. Maybe not to all but certainly to some. You can download templates for Wall Planners, Calendars, Kids activities, Cards, Crafts etc. All free. You just pick the template you want and then tap print from your phone. The photocopy option is also proving to be very useful and is a great feature.Update 2: Having used the printer for nearly 12 months now it is still fantastic. I've had no issues with it whatsoever and using it frequently.

Absolute nightmare to get through setup once done however, its pretty awesome!
I took several weeks to decide which printer I wanted as a replacement. My criteria was a smaller footprint with full wireless capability, the ability to print both documents and photographs and the running costs needed to be as reasonable as possible. I paid just under £60 for the HP ENVY 6020e which comes with a 3 month interest free terms as an option and 3 months of free ink deal I bought it as it would meet all my criteria. It was easy to subscribe to the ink service, which is just over a fiver a month based on 100 pages a month. It would appear that the cartridges that come with the printer are included as month 1 of the three month free package which is a little strange. I may be wrong the wording was somewhat ambiguous about that so I am not 100% sure on that. My printing requirements are unlikely to exceed the 100 pages a month. Interestingly for just £1.19 on top of that you can subscribe to get your paper delivered in addition to replacement cartridges.I had an 11 hour nightmare getting this printer to connect to our network and complete its set up through the app. We have many devices and electronics connected to our wireless home network which had been no problem to set up. I tried on and off for a total of 11 hours, although it could see the Envy it just would not connect. I tried suggested solutions several times, I was about to throw it into the bin in anger when suddenly it finally added itself and went through the rest of its set up process without further difficulty. The alignment test is impressive, you just scan the test sheet it produces and it makes all the adjustments automatically a great improvement from my last printer which had provided me with reliable service for several years before giving up the ghost.Overall I am very pleased after 3 days use and very happy. The printer looks smart, has a smaller footprint than my last printer about half the size, connects and works well from all our devices. I see that some folks have stated in their reviews that they are disappointed with the print quality, so far I find it to be superb. It works well from our android mobile phones, tablet and the windows pc (use control p on pc for internet prints and the app for documents). To set to monochrome you do this one the printer itself, so simple, but it took me a while to figure that out!I will edit this post if need be in due time should the need arise.

Do not buy - design fault!!
Do not buy!!!!!I bought this a year ago last April and a couple of months ago one of the ‘legs’ on the printer tray snapped off leaving it unusable (the printer leg slots into a hole that then alerts the printer to the fact the paper has been put in. Without it the printer won’t print anything.). After much web searching I discovered this was a common complaint (fault) with this printer and there were several suggested ‘hacks’ around fixing it back on temporarily - I managed to tape it back together and it worked for a couple of months but then snapped off again and now there is no sign of the leg. I booked it in for a repair through Amazon (thinking that was a great and v easy service) before I realised that was costing me £49. I cancelled it because no way so I want to pay another £49 (nearly half the cost of the printer!) when it seems very likely I’ll have to do the same thing again in another year or so. Shame on you HP - this is a known fault and you’re still selling printers with the same design fault. I’m cutting my losses and spending another £100 on a different printer - so that was less than a year’s use I got from this printer. Not happy and no longer an HP customer!!
