A Joy to Watch 1
I already knew Agnes Varda's films and had watched them with great pleasure over the years. For those who don't, you're in for a treat if you purchase the entire collection. One of the least known is The beaches of Agnes, a film she made when she was 80 years old -- one of the greatest self-portraits of all times.

True Cinema at its best
Pieces of work such as these films, of such singularity and sensitivity, are the reason why the art of Cinema is Great. If Agnes Varda's work should need an introduction and a follow up, this collection is it. Moreover these are films of incredible depth that will require plunges amany for the viewer to fully appreciate them. All of Agnes Varda's essential work is presented here, including the seminal 2001 "The Gleaners and I". The contents are priceless. The technical side is flawless. A must for any film lover. And a magic surprise in the waiting for those who have yet to discover Agnes Varda.

Lovely Box Set but NOT as Advertised
Pre-ordered this set at an incredibly low price from Amazon and while the contents include the superb Cleo from 5 to 7,it DOES NOT include her best film Vagabond. And it is a 4 disc set not 3.What is in is as followsLa Pointe Courte(1954)Her debut feature about a married couple(an early Philippe Noiret)and their difficult relationship is slight but well played.Cleo from 5 to 7(1961)Ostensibly about a singer(Corinne Marchand)who wanders around Paris in real time while waiting for the results of a biopsy. However Varda imbues the proceedings with some unexpected moments and a cute "film within a film" which showcases some of the other New Wave luminaries and cinematographer Jean Rabier's Paris is beautiful to behold.Le Bonheur(1964)Sad but potent mood piece about a carpenter Francois(Jean-Claude Drouot) who chooses mistress over wife with tragic results.Drouot's on screen family are actually his own.Gleaners And I(2000)Disarming documentary about those people on the margins of society. Here the "gleaners" are collectors or as the boxset suggests "foragers"who search for discarded things for pleasure, importance, etc.Varda feels a real affinity for this inclination and that is why the film works so well.Nice bunch of extras and a very worthwhile set of a very underrated film-maker

The next best thing after Criterion Collection
I'm very satisfied with this product. It's a slim box that doesn't take up too much space. The four dvds have got English subtitles and a fair amount of extra material. It's nothing for a real Agnes Varda nerd, but it's fine if you just need the films.Buy the Criterion Collection, if you want more extra material etc.

agnes varga collection vol 1
We are great fans of Agnes Vardas films and I was excited to obtain this collection. One film of the four 'The Point Courte' had no subtitles! My husband has no French! Very disappointing. I now feel hesitant about buying the second collection. What if they have no subtitles either?

WESTERN MARRIAGE
BONHEUR:Despite the eye-ravishing photography, the pretty girls and Mozart on the soundtrack, this is more about the affects of happiness than its causes. Ultimately, this is also more about the instability of Western marriage, since it confronts issues of trust, sexual jealousy and erotic temptation. But, again, it only deals with their affects and not their causes.
