Perfect for pruning trees and bushes
Works great. This tool everyone should have if you have a yard with trees and bushes. Saves a lot of time. Hand held little effort to cut branches and limbs.

Does work, but one battery is dead
These shears does work great, make sure to read the manual, cause I thought at the beginning that it wouldn't work. It's nice that it shows the battery level and comes with an extra blade. There are two batteries that came with it, but unfortunately one battery came dead in my set. Tried to charge it multiple times, but wouldn't work.

Tool cutting width is as advertised. Also works with extension pole.
I lucked out and got one of these while there was a 47% off coupon offered which brought the price down to $46 USD.The opening width of this tool is 40mm measured where the branch is completely captured by the blade and anvil. The build quality seems okay. The tool does have adjustable opening widths (2). The manual does not mention this, but it does. I'll include instructions on how to set the opening width at the end of the review. The picture in the listing is incorrect about how the width settings are changed. The batteries are a bit lighter than some others, so I would suspect we'll be lucky to get 2000mah out of them. The batteries also arrived completely discharged, which is not good for the Li-Ion batteries. The anvil on this tool is beefier than most, we'll see how the cutting blade holds up. I'll update the review after I've had a chance to use them more.I noticed that this tool has a few differences from some of its competitors:1. The anvil is thicker and generally has more metal than others.2. The actuating point for the cutter is positioned a bit higher on the cutter, which should provide a bit more power to the cutter due to increased leverage.3. The cutter is not sharpened all the way down to the "crotch" where it meets the anvil. This means that you could wind up getting thinner stuff trapped in the last 8mm or so of the bottom of the blade and it won't cut well. I think this can be dealt with, but it will take a bit of practice to remember to position thinner branches a bit higher on the blade.4. The tool came with 2 replacement blades -- one black oxide coated and the other shiny steel like the one mounted in the tool. There is no replacement anvil.5. The tool does not come with a bottle of oil, which most others do. You'll need to get a bottle of some lightweight machine oil to keep the blade and pivot lubricated. Some 3-in-one oil or some sewing machine oil would work for this as would some tri-flow oil. Don't use automotive motor oil.To adjust the opening width of the cutter, you press and hold the trigger until it beeps once and then release. The next time you pull the trigger, it should be actuating at the smaller opening width. To get back to the maximum opening width, just repeat the process. To close the jaws for storage, hold the trigger longer until it beeps twice. That will lock the blade in the closed position for storage. To unlock it , you just press the trigger quickly twice and it will beep and unlock.I tested and this does work with the extension poles being sold to work with these makita battery based pruners and mini-chainsaws. You'll need to change the "mode" switch on the extension pole to the non-factory setting to make it work.

Great Product
Not only myself, but the neighbors are super impressed with these. The absolutely best device we have found for cutting down bamboo and then cutting it to fit in a pickup or burn barrel. I have also pruned all my fruit trees and bushes with it without any issues. Battery life is great and the added bonus is that I can use my Makita batteries with this and it will literally run all day on a single 5ah battery. Between myself and the neighbors this device has been in daily use for the last week. Super impressed !!!!!!

Makes Pruning Easy
I didn't think I needed this - until I got one. To effortlessly snip and snip, one after the other with no fatigue, it must be a dream! After over a hundred snips (there's a handy snip/battery meter), it was still showing a full charge. The safety features are a little tricky. The on/off button (shown) is very difficult to press. I used one finger on another to apply enough force to power the pruner on. Once on, the battery indicator next to the on/off button comes to life. To open the jaws of the pruner you have to double-click the trigger. The unit will partially power down if there is no activity for a short time. To get it going again, you can double-click the trigger or power off and then on via the power button.Once the jaws are open, squeeze the trigger. Let go when the branch is fully cut. It takes very little time. To close the jaws and keep them closed, squeeze the trigger and hold it squeezed until the unit beeps. Then it will remain closed until double-clicked. To shut the unit down, close the jaws as mentioned, and depress the power button, or just pull the battery out.The carrying case is a thoughtful touch. Also supplied are a small tool kit, kind of worthless gloves, battery charger, extra battery and an instruction manual.Highly recommended!

Cuts Well, One Battery Was DOA
A bit of a mixed reaction on this item. The cutter does work well, and functions as it should, but one battery was dead on arrival and the second on seems to hold a very small charge. I tried charging both batteries, which use an odd plug to charge compared to most other batteries that use a charger/base. Only one battery of the 2 included work. One was never able to take a charge or work at all. The cutter actually works very well, easily cutting anything I have tried it on. From large branches that max out its capacity to thin branches i can get multiples in at a time, this tool cuts them all! Simple one button operation and its ability to work with the rest of my Makita batteries makes this a great tool overall, but beware of battery quality.
