STA-BRITE SBSK Silver Solder 3/64 1/2 oz STAR2000

Q: Is this solder harder than regular electronic solder? I am trying to repair fret wear grooves on guitar. The you tube demo says 'use silver solder'.

This is NOT silver solder. It is "silver-bearing" solder (about 4% solder), and much weaker than real silver solder (50%+ silver). Anything you can melt with a soldering iron is not silver solder.

The real catch to soldering is more the using the right tinning then the solder it's self. I recently used a Dremel butane soldering iron (i.e. the soldering tip on what fundamentally is a torch) and it worked great. When applicable, I really prefer a soldering iron to an open flame, because you can direct the heat to exactly where needed and not heat up the whole surrounding area.

Yes, MAPP will work fine for that. The melting point is only a little higher than that of plumbing solder. Be sure to use liquid flux, NOT the paste flux.

Watch out for the quantity mentioned in the title and the description.

Received the product today. I am a bit disappointed 😞 , not because of the quality of the product but the quantity. In the description of the item it is mentioned as 12oz of solder wire and flux each but the title says 1/2oz. Considering the price I thought it must be a typo in the title of the item but 😞 no its actually just 14gm of each, bit pricey for such a small quantityGiving 5 stars just for the quality of the product!
