Fostex T60RP is awesome in every way
Well i will start this review by saying...this is the best sounding headphone i have ever heard. And i have tried a lot of headphones. Remember that audio is a very personal thing and that what i find awesome it might be just good to you. In any case, there are two things about this headphone that to me they do better than any other headphone i have tried and those two things are the imaging and highs. The imaging on this headphone is super amazingly precise. There's so much clarity and resolution. There's a song that before using this headphone, in certain parts of the music i thought that only one singer was singing. With this headphone i can clearly heard other singers behind the usual one and i can clearly heard woman voices and men voices singing behind. For me that was a nice revelation. In gaming the super precise imaging has helped me a lot with footsteps and enemy's coming from different places. The highs are sweet, ok maybe thats not a good description but to me they are sweet to my ears. The highs are sweet, clear, detailed. The mids are awesome too. The voice clarity of this headphone is amazing. There's so much texture and resolution and clarity in the mids that...ufff i have no words to describe it. The low end is, to me, perfect. If you like crazy amount of bass look for another headphone because this one is very very detailed and controlled with the low end. The bass is perfect to me, very tight and impactful. Everything about the sound is just awesome. The build quality is spectacular too. They are BEAUTIFUL. That wood is so nice. The headphone is very sturdy and well made. Detachable cable! Yeiii! Awesome! But fostex didn't stop there! fostex did the wiring inside to support balance connections too! Awesome! The cable that comes with the headphone is very good, kinda short if you dont have your amp next to you on your desk but...you can buy any extension you want. The pads are super comfortable. They are of very very good quality. Man this is the best headphone i have ever tried.

There's a lot to like
After spending several days of intensive listening with these headphones, I am comfortable giving them a full five stars. First, I can't compare or contrast them to the T-50 MKIII. I haven't ever listened to any of the modern Fostex offerings, including the modified versions from various shops. I had a set of T-10s back in the 90s, but they have long since gone into the great dustbin of history. So, I'll just try and evaluate the T-60s on their own merits. To start, they are really attractive, at least to me. I think the wood looks amazing, and was a feature that helped me pull the trigger and buy them. The 'phones arrived in good shape. No damage to them or their package. The package is sufficient. Nothing super amazing. Compared to a recent purchase of the Neumann NDH-20, this is a ho-hum unboxing experience. Comfort is quite good. I can wear these 'phones for several hours during the day and not suffer any ear discomfort. I'm wearing them within an air conditioned house, so I can't tell you if they're hot during summer/outside wear. These, despite being quite large cans, aren't very heavy, and don't have really high clamping force, even on a large man's head. Sound is a good balance. They have a good bit of air and lightness in the treble, but aren't shrill or super incisive. No complaints with the midrange, as there shouldn't be in a planar. Bass, at least in these, doesn't seem overboosted. It's present, detailed, but not boomy. They have a more open and broad soundstage than the Neumanns, but don't have as much slam. They aren't as wide or sharp as Sennheiser HD700s. They provide some acoustic isolation, but are semi-open, so you can still hear your surroundings, albeit attenuated and treble-rolled. Some have said that the Fostex planar line is hard to drive. I wondered if my dac/amp would be sufficient, but I've settled on around 19/100 volume with my Apogee Groove. That's roughly the same as the Sennheiser HD700, which is not known as a tough pair to drive. Would these strain a phone or a weak headphone out on your laptop? Maybe a bit. But you could make do, if that's all you had. That said, there are better choices for portable gear. These are big headphones that don't fold, remember. The T-60s don't necessarily do any one thing better than everything else, but they have a lot of good qualities. I don't find them fatiguing to wear. They're revealing and hi-fi enough, without being painful to listen to with lesser sources or compressed music. They're distinctive in looks. Being a close cousin to the much-modded T-50, there will be tons of aftermarket pads and tweaks for them. Very much worth your consideration, if you're looking for a set of 'phones less than $500. For my money, I prefer them to the HD700s I've been listening to for years.

Best cans I own. UPDATE: creaky hinge.
I've owned ATH-m50x, ATH-m40x, and HE350 on a Schiit stack. I've bought and returned HE560s because they weren't worth the price and the sound signature was too thin. I've never heard another Fostex pair of headphones, so I cannot compare to the T50RPs with or without mods. All I can say is that these cans are the best cans I've ever heard, except for maybe the HE1000 that I demoed at a trade show. They are so damn thick, rich, and precise! Bass is really present, smooth, and detailed. Vocals aren't as forward as something like a m40x, but are extremely filled out and pleasant to listen to. Soundstage isn't very wide, but the placement is very precise. Gaming in these is really immersive. They are also very comfortable out of the box. I tend to replace my Audio Technica gear with Brainwavz hybrid or velour just for comfort. But the pleather pads are very nice and I haven't felt the need to experiment. Build quality is beautiful and feels robust. The 3.5mm jack is super convenient. The cable that comes with it is high quality and sleeved. If I had a balanced system I'd spring for the four pole balanced cable. I hear something in the Schiit Magni range is the lowest power gear you should use, because they're pretty power hungry. Word on the street is that if you try running it off say an iphone or even a Dragon Fly Red, you won't get the full sound signature, even if they are driven to loud volumes. These are not portable headphones. If you're in the price range and have an amp that can power them, it's a no-brainer. Update 1/19/2019: Unfortunately I have to take off two stars because the left ear cup’s hinge has developed a persistent creaking any time I move my head or jaw. That’s a pretty serious flaw for a headphone of this price tier, and completely ruins the user experience.

Ho trovato il mio sound: bassi presenti e controllati, mai rimbombanti, alti cristallini mai affaticanti e... medi davvero naturali, voci e strumenti acustici vengono riprodotti molto realisticamente.

Bought these to turn into Argon’s. spent a couple months enjoying them as stock. But after giving them the argon conversion with new head band and ear pads….bliss for long detailed listening with a Schiit stack.
