Artificial General Intelligence (The MIT Press Essential Knowledge series) [Togelius, Julian] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Artificial General Intelligence (The MIT Press Essential Knowledge series) Review: I really enjoyed reading - I like how AI and AGI were demistified and well explained. The author covers entire history of AI since the 1950s and important milestones up to where we are today. It mixes real world achievements and technology with sci-fi movies and novels which is really engaging and educational at the same time because it asks the difficult questions about intelligence and how would we recognize alien or any kind of intelligence if it was right in front of us. Review: Decent read - Generally informative and covers basic concepts but also a little narrow in scope and lacking some detail. Decent intro to AI for the layman.

This is for a general audience
I just bought this book, read a few nonconsecutive chapters, and already like it enough to give it 5 stars. The most important thing a prospective buyer needs to know is that this is a short book written for a general audience. It therefore needs to be brief, engaging, yet authoritative. It hits all these marks. I bought it because Togelius is an acknowledged leader in AI applied to games, and vice versa. His discussion of AGI is on the mark, neither hype-driven nor dismissive. It's worthy of citations because that's much easier than composing work that covers much of the same ground. He's added a necessary element to the public dialogue. If you're looking for theorems, simulations, original research, this isn't for you. (He delivers original research in plenty of other publications.) If you'd like to quickly explore various facets of current thinking on AGI, you will benefit from this book.

Audio Book : Ready to learn about AGI
I’m starting this book now because one of my favorite quantum leaders Geordie Rose posted that it was a great read. Looking forward to this!

This area of research is a very open question.
Psychologists have studied intelligence for over 120 years and have learned a few things in the process -- from factor analysis studies (i.e., the components of intelligence) to investigating the "processes" of human intelligence. While this recent work will contribute to thinking about artificial general intelligence, unfortunately the author is not well-versed enough in human intelligence, including the g factor; and this is a serious limitation. Again, this work will contribute some to the literature, but in the words of Robert Frost, "... miles to go before I (we) sleep." Readers are advised to consult the excellent work of Melanie Mitchell, Herbert Roitblat, the professional periodicals on human and artifical intelligence, and other sources available on Amazon.com.
