Quick and stylish lil toaster
Very happy with this toaster. Super affordable, easy to use, and whips up my morning toast in a flash. I usually have to pump up the dial to 6 or 7 and hit the defrost button to get my frozen bread the way I like it, but once i figured that out it’s been yum toast all the way. It’s a bit small for sourdough so I usually cut that in two first. English muffins have been great too. Haven’t tried anything else like waffles yet. I bought the white and it looks nice on my toaster oven. Love that I can trust Cuisineart to deliver on the home essentials

Welcome back to simplicity!
I've had several sophisticated toasters with LED lights and extra features, and at some point they have all failed at some point, and when I saw this one recommended on Wirecutter it looked like a good value, and having received this one, I feel: "Welcome back to simplicity!" No fancy features, but it does the job and so far has done it well. I mean, that's all I really want from a toaster! And the price is right. The only downside was I had to learn not to push the lever down too hard. Other toasters I had to kinda push hard to make it stay down, but with this one if I push to hard it pops right back up again. If I push down gently, it stays down. I was a bit hesitant to buy something that literally says "plastic" in the description as I'm not a big fan of using plastic in general, but there is no contact between the plastic and the food and it does seem easier to clean than steel toasters. So far, very happy with this toaster, and it doesn't take up a lot of space on the counter. ALERT: I put it too close to a gas burner on the stove and it caught on fire! The plastic side flamed and melted - ugh! So I bought another. I still give it 5 stars - I just need to keep it further away from the stove!

Great toaster! Slots could be wider
This is a nice little toaster. I like the size as it fits well in the appliance cubby under my counter. Looks great and I think it'll clean up well. Works fine, toasts pretty even and adjusts to brown your bread as you please. My only cons are the slots aren't as wide as I'd prefer to account for thick bagels, they get stuck so you have to force the handle up to get them out. And, the cord could stand to be longer. Otherwise I'd give it five stars.

Disappointed
Compared to other Cuisinart toasters I have had in the past, I was extremely disappointed with the Cuisinart 2 slice toaster CPT-122BK model. Not sure if I just got a defective one or if they are all like that, but it didn't work correctly. The toaster itself is very lightweight & low quality compared to the others I have had. It looks good & the cord is a good length & can be contained underneath. I definitely recommend a removable crumb tray & it has one. It was packaged well & I had it delivered in an Amazon box. I like the cancel, bagel & defrost options & the wide slots - unfortunately, that's the only good things about it as it didn't toast as it should. I ran a couple cycles to burn off the manufacturing residue & tested the toaster with several different types/sizes/thickness of bread at the various heat settings - all had issues. Weirdly, the pieces of toast that I scraped off the burnt parts tasted like there was cinnamon on it & I was using Texas toast & peanut butter, so there shouldn't have been a cinnamon taste. The bread was still cold even though it was burnt. It appeared brand new in the box with all of the wrappings & no crumbs in it when I unboxed it, so I don't know what happened. The plastic sides of the toaster got very hot, even on the lowest setting. The lever isn't smoothe when you press it down & you can see the red heat elements through the lever slit in the plastic. Thicker bread doesn't pop up very much when it's done. The bread carriage doesn't hold the bread in the center of the slots & it didn't settle in the same spot every time. Toasting at level 1 or 2 doesn't get the bread toasted or warm. Level 2.5 - 3.5 burns one side of the bread while the other side isn't toasted at all. Turning it over to toast the other side ends up burning both sides. Anything higher makes charcoal. There's no control at all over the toast brownness because it goes from nothing to burnt in less than 1 level. Weirdly, even when the toast was burnt, the bread wasn't warm at all. The heat elements get really red & all seem to light up, but I don't know what makes the toaster do what it does at the lower heat levels. If you like burnt cold toast, you would probably like this defective toaster. I need to have a toaster that works correctly & consistently since we use it every day for multiple people & picky eaters. Thankfully, I am able to return the toaster without leaving my house - the UPS building is about 10 miles away from my house & I don't have a vehicle right now & we don't really have any public transportation options here. UPS will pick it up at some point tomorrow & being a label to put on it. Hopefully that goes smoothly! I have already ordered a different brand toaster that has 4.7 stars - hopefully I get one that actually works well, every time.

Two toned toast
This is a good looking toaster, intuitive controls and cool outside when toasting. However, it does not toast evenly. It does the same thing that my existing $19 toaster does. It does not toast the whole slice of bread. Returning

Happy Day
I love Cuisinart Products. They stand by their products, and that's important to me. This unit works fine for my counter space. I got the black, and it blends in well with my decor. Pricing, it wasn't expensive, and it got the job done. Yummy, sour dough english muffins came out fine on a level 5, married with a poached egg, perfection. Happy camper. The toaster was also nice looking, and it didn't break the bank. Make a nice, affordable wedding gift.

Interesting...toasts one side of bread but not the other...hmmmm
I haven't found a decent toaster since our 30 yr old GE had to be replaced about 10+ years ago. In the years since, we've purchased at least 4 different toasters...none of them toasted bread properly. We got tired of buying toasters so we asked our kids to buy us one for Christmas a few years ago. They chose another GE for us, but forgot to check one minor detail...the lift up feature. We've been spearing shorter pieces of bread & other items for the past 6 years. When my hubby became gluten intolerant last year, he had to start buying gluten free bread which is shorter & smaller than wheat bread. He kept complaining about having to use tongs or spearing his bread every time he used the toaster. Anyway, I read reviews for all sorts of toasters in different price ranges. I chose this toaster over more expensive ones because I decided none of them will toast to my expectations. By the way, I love toast! Boy, was I surprised when I toasted my first slice of multi-grain bread. It's on the thin side, about 3/8" - 7/16" thick (purchased at Krogers - Wholesome Harvest, 9 grain & seed - this stuff is one of the best breads for toasting that I've come across). I used the 3 1/2 setting. One side of my bread was toasted, the other side wasn't. I turned the bread around & toasted it for a few seconds more...but left it in too many seconds more & the previously toasted side started to burn, while the untoasted side came out decent. I've been experimenting ever since...and have raised the setting to 5. Both sides get toasted now, but one side toasts more than the other. I flip the toast around & re-toast for a few seconds & it'll be good enough for me. All the elements light up, so it's a mystery to me why one side toasts & the other either doesn't toast or doesn't brown as much. By the way, my bread isn't browned evenly on either side, but I expected that because toasters these days...well, because as far as I know, toasters these days do not toast like the good ones from years ago. Tonight I used the 'reheat' setting to reheat my Fazoli's breadstick. It worked & I enjoyed a perfectly crisped breadstick; however; it took about 3 tries. But, it was much better than reheating it in the microwave. If you don't mind unevenly toasted bread, you might like this toaster. At least it's affordable and has these buttons: reheat, defrost, bagel & cancel which I use all the time, because I have to turn my bread around to get both sides toasted. It also has the high-lift function which is what we needed & is great for purchased gluten free bread which is so much smaller than wheat bread. The settings seem to be precise...each time I change a setting, I get the same 'browning' results with that setting. We're currently using it on '5'...although both sides are toasted now, I still need to turn my bread around to finish toasting one side which isn't as brown as the other. The sides of the toaster stay fairly cool, the toaster is compact & its longer length cord is a welcome relief compared to the many products today that have annoyingly short cords. The controls are easy to read, no more squinting to see which setting we need to use. So there you have it another toaster that doesn't toast evenly. 3 year warranty...but as far as I know, Cuisinart requests that consumers pay the shipping fee when returning defective products.
