George Carlin: The Very Best of- 1996-2001 [DVD]

George Carlin is one of the best stand-ups that has ever walked the earth. No contest, and its such a shame that in the UK we never really got to see him.. This 4 disc collection proves that he just got more righteously angry, incisive and essential as he grew older. Absolutely brilliant in every way. A must have for any self-respecting comedy fanatic

This guy got better and BETTER as he got older and for me this is his best DVD . He made a few but this one is by far the best so go for it and Enjoy . Have a good laugh because what he says is true .

These really are brilliant DVDs showcasing George at his very best during his HBO specials from middle age right through to grumpy old man! Well worth the money

I really like George Carlin's comedy, but I find it patchy.There are moments and brilliant sequences of political and social insight that eclipsed his contemporaries, but could suddenly lapse into the disappointingly puerile, even in his advancing years. I have all three of these boxed HBO Specials spanning 1977-2001 and concur with other reviewers that as a comedian he improved with age.He was clearly ground breaking in his day, and a big influence on my favourite comedian Bill Hicks (and possibly vice-versa??). Ironically he outlasted Bill who died of pancreatic cancer far too early.Recommended to anyone who likes Hicks or Lenny Bruce,

I have always loved George Carlin's sense of humour, and after reading various reviews on George Carlin DVD's I decided on this one. I believe it contains 3 discs, and so far have only watched one of them, but I was sadly disappointed with it. It was not any of his best performances. Maybe the other 2 discs will be better....

Good .I love a few of his rants . But sometimes he can be tiresome , and go on a little .But overall the world is a far poorer place , without him and his focus.There are no comedians now, who challenge establishment like him.Wish they did in the uk now .

Stupid that it doesn’t play in the us! I got it as a gift for my dad and it couldn’t be used and when I tried to return it they didn’t get back to me so it couldn’t be done, very disappointed

Über die DVD-Collection möchte ich eigentlich gar nicht so viel sagen. Es sind vier DVDs, die nicht übereinander liegen und sich daher einzeln entnehmen lassen, ohne zu zerkratzen (siehe Foto).Die Qualität ist völlig ausreichend, wenn man bedenkt, dass es ältere Aufnahmen sind.Hier kommt es sowieso mehr auf den Inhalt an, als auf die Bild - und Tonqualität.George Carlin ist in Deutschland leider eher unbekannt und auch ich bin nur zufällig auf ihn gestoßen,als ich ein Zitat von ihm las.Anschließend googelte ich nach ihm und fand div. Videos bei youtube.Ich war begeistert und wurde am Ende ein echter Fan von ihm.Dieser Mann war wirklich fantastisch und er ist zu recht legendär!Informiert euch über ihn und urteilt selbst.Jedem, der sich für diese Art Sozialkritik interessiert, kann ich diese Collection an's Herz legen.Natürlich hat er noch weitaus mehr gemacht, aber diese Collection beinhaltet schon einige sehr gute Auftritte von George Carlin (R.I.P.)

...seines Faches. Jedenfalls für mich. Eine einzigartige Art die Dinge so auf den Punkt zu bringen und die Sachen auch beim Namen zu nennen ohne immer gleich den PC Zeigefinger im Hinterkopf zu haben. Ich kann von den Aufzeichnungen nicht genug bekommen. Auch heute noch aktuell. Vielleicht mehr denn je. Trifft genau meinen Humor!

This is a collection of George's late HBO specials, which were originally issued on video (NTSC) tapes. I bought this set of DVD's to replace 20- and 30-year-old tapes, and i am very happy with the quality of image and sound.Also, for those interested, this collection shows something of the evolution of his craft.
