Outstanding: get this book if you plan English
This book has exceeded all expectations to be honest. I thought I knew a fair bit about primary literacy - but this book revealed SO much about planning and teaching effective stories/narratives. It's probably more centred on KS2 than KS1, but it's well worth buying for any primary teacher/English lead. I really can't praise it enough. Pair it with a more grammar/non-fiction-centred book like 'The Writing Revolution' and you're sorted.

2 books in one
An incredible book. It’s actually 2 books in one, as the second half delves into sentence level instructional routines. It’s given me a completely fresh but easy to implement view on teaching writing.

Over-arching, well-structured and helpful guide for teachers
Very thorough and not over-long. Systematically looks at areas of story-writing for primary schools, and even contains a joke here and there. Clearly written by someone with experience, this is full of tips and structure to the planning and delivering of story-writing techniques and sessions. The graphs there are are more diagrams and helpful visual aids. I like the use of quotes (and jokes), with some brief lesson plans as well. One section I liked was Proofreading for pupils, always something my own son and I are suggested we look at every Parents' Evening. The stages suggested here are very useful and easy to remember (and there's a helpful suggestion of a Youtube video on this subject). Will be of huge use for those new to the profession or working with upper primary for the first time, but a great resources for any primary school.
