Synopsis This guidebook offers 50 walks in seven regions throughout the North York Moors National Park, enabling walkers to discover and appreciate in turn the Tabular Hills, Hambleton Hills, Cleveland Hills, Northern Moors, High Moors, Eastern Moors and Cleveland Coast. For those walkers who like to rise to a challenge, the course of the classic Lyke Wake Walk is also offered, split over a four-day period to allow a more leisurely appreciation of the moors as it stretches across the national park from east to west. There are almost 750km (465 miles) of walking routes described throughout this book though the North York Moors could easily furnish many more splendid and enjoyable routes. The North York Moors National Park is broad, bleak and barren, displaying the largest continuous expanse of heather moorland in England. The moors offer a great sense of spaciousness, with extensive views under a 'big sky', but there are also dozens of deep, verdant dales full of charming scenes and hoary stone buildings, as well as a remarkable cliff coastline designated as Heritage Coast. About the Author Martin Collins is a freelance author, photo-journalist and cartographer, as well as a regular contributor to the UK outdoor media. He has written over twenty books for walkers embracing the coast, mountains and countryside of the UK and parts of Europe. Paddy Dillon is a prolific outdoor writer with a score and more books to his name.

Good value
Cicerone guides are well established. This is smallish but quite thick guide containing 50 walks from the easy to quite challenging. Each walk is clearly set out with start point, OS route map insert in 1.25k detail and where to get some refreshments on the walk. There are plenty of photographs too.The only quibble I have about Cicerone guides is there size. They've gone for a modest width and height which is great but it means the guide is quite thick and a tad on the heavy side so you wouldn't want to be carrying it for long in your hand whilst you're looking for way point directions. I also have misgivings that the spine will stand the test of time. As I use a GPS device, I download walks and leave the guide at home which is a bit self defeating.

Very easy for a novice to use.
I bought this based on positive reviews from other users. I rarely ever write a review of a product I have purchased. My wife and I used this for several walks of different lengths and difficulties. The directions were unbelievably clear and the grading made complete sense. I hope to be back in North Yorkshire in the future and when I am no doubt this book will get more use. There are still about 45 walks to do. Based on the usefulness of this book I will purchase more by Paddy Dillon and look to do many of his walks closer to our home.

Amazing
It's a miracle - I managed to negotiate my way round a good few of these walks, and I never got lost. I am infamous amongst my friends for a chronic lack of any sense of direction - get the usual: 'You'd get lost at the end of the road ha ha' jokes, but this fantastic little book seems to have solved the problem. The walks themselves are lovely, very clearly graded, and very easy to follow. The scenery helped a lot - fantastic views, and the format of the book made it ideal to shove into pockets and easy to retrieve again. It even survived a torrential downpour and being dropped in a puddle.Would thoroughly recommend it, and walking in Yorkshire as well.

NYM Walking Guide (Cicerone)
I'm really pleased with this book as there are some decent length walks in this book. Most walking books have lots of short-ish walks and not too many walks of 10+ miles. Can't wait to get a few under my belt!
