Works as designed, readily available useful home data
I've watched these products come down im price over the past few years. Finally, there is the HF96V camera with an affordable price tag. I use this for personal use and not for any professional services, therefore I did not want to spend money on the professional grade name brands. This product works. I can track heat leaks around doors and windows, get thermal imaging of pot and pans on my stove top, and just play around gauging temperatures of various objects. Thus far, the HF96V has met all of my initial expectations. I;'ve not downloaded any data to a computer, but i can see first had if something is running hotter or colder than normal, or everything is working within defined specifications. Anyone who has a need to verify leaking/drafty windows and doors, ceiling insulation, or other potential moneysaving areas, should consider having this in the tool drawer. It will help identify problems that then can be addressed. A protective carry case would be helpful, but otherwise it is a fine product, just know your reasons why you want to use this before opting to buy or not.

Great device for money
Good for a DIY person or homeowner. Works well, easy to use once you get the hang of it. Screen is a little small, but has good picture. Very dependable and helps save money.

Stopped Working
Update: Very soon after I left my initial review, I was contacted by HSFTools regarding my non-working unit. Even though I was outside the Amazon return window, they were very quick to offer me a refund or replacement. The return/replacement process was fairly straightforward and the customer service rep always responded within 24 hours. The only SLIGHT negatives to the replacement is that it was an open box replacement; so not 100% new, but still in like new condition. And even though the company credited my Amazon account $15 to pay for shipping the defective unit, the cheapest shipping with a tracking number was about $22. The replacement unit works great, exactly as expected. However, the main reason I can’t give this product 5 stars is because you HAVE to use the included USB cable for charging/transferring data. Any other USB cable will not work at all; it doesn’t even recognize it is plugged up. There being a proprietary cable bothers me because when you inevitably lose the cable, (because it will get lost if you are a tradesman using this for work) you have to get a replacement cable from HSFTools, or be stuck with an expensive paper weight. Thanks again to HSFTools for the prompt reply and commitment to good customer service. Knowing that they care about their products and customers past the initial sale, gives me the confidence to check out some of their more expensive products. Original Review: After having this product for less than 6 months and only being used a handful of times, it suddenly stopped taking a charge and will not turn on. It seemed like a quality product at first, but now I’m having second thoughts because of this issue. Full transparency: it sat in my work truck since I’ve had it. There was no chance of water damage or impact damage; it was stored safely in a cushioned area wrapped in a heavy knit cap, but not in a box. 08/19/2025 Edit: HSF Tools has reached out to me through Amazon and are currently working on helping me troubleshoot the issue or sending me a replacement. I definitely want to acknowledge the prompt and polite response from HSF Tools customer support team. It took less than a week after I posted my original review for them to reach out to me. I will update this review after everything is done and will update my rating accordingly.

Always wanted a Thermal Camera, just needed an automotive parasitic draw to buy and try ...
Incredible tool ... Has a Thermal Lense and an Optical Lense. One of the modes called Fusion - merges the 2 images that makes it so simple to locate/focus on the precise point of Heat. I Practiced inside my home for a few hours as I learned the features of this Thermal Camera ... I purchased this tool for automotive purposes. A dead battery resulted in an unmanageable # of error codes and check engine light. A recharged battery ended up dead again over night. A brand new battery also ended up dead over night. Clearly a parasitic draw cropped up out of nowhere. After watching a few YouTube videos, I set up an inline multi-meter to monitor the current flow. I expected to see an interior fuse box circuit 'light' up on the Thermal image with current flowing thru. Unfortunately, the interior fuse box was 'cold' - nothing glowed??? I moved to the engine compartment and quickly found an engine bay fuse box with a relay and a bunch of wires ALL lit up RED. Without knowing anything about parasitic draws, I clearly stumbled onto a source of current-flow activity. I put my hand inside the box and 'moved' wires around in the box (so I could see better), and suddenly heard a 'click' and the current flow thru the multi-meter reduced by a factor of 10x(?). At this point I was very confused - but pleased. I wondered if something was hung-up from the original battery draining 9 days earlier(?) I decided to reconnect the negative cable back to the new battery, and then let the car sit overnight. The following morning, battery still charged at 12.3v!!! 1st time in 10 days, this vehicle's battery stayed charged overnight. Car starts right up and after a few drive cycles the Check Engine Light turned off by itself. It's been 72 hours since using the Thermal camera and the car battery has remained charged over-night(s). This tool allowed me to 'see' a problem area - car was suppose to be in sleep mode, but something was still active ... and while I don't exactly know what happen, knowing where to tell the Dealership Service advisor where to look could prove useful. (But I have no intention right now of paying $$$$ for a Diagnostic fee).

One year old and still and excellent thermal camera.
I have owned the HF96 for over a year no. I have had zero problems with the camera, the batteries hold a charge and zero problems recharging it. My only regret is I wished I purchased the HF96V (with visual camera). Other than that it is an excellent camera for the price.
