Sonatino is a compact ESP32-based development board for audio projects. It packs a ton of features into a board that matches the dimensions of the popular Raspberry Pi Zero. Sonatino is NOT compatible with the Raspberry Pi Zero, but it fits into many cases designed for the Pi Zero (Note: some cases may require modification since Sonatino uses different IO connections).

In addition to the WiFi + BLE and dual-core processing features of the onboard ESP32-S3, Sonatino provides high quality audio input and output through a single 3.5mm audio jack, along with a built-in amplifier for connecting directly to a compact speaker. ADC and DAC functions are performed by dedicated high-performance chips from Cirrus Logic using I2S. A microSD card slot is available for data storage and retrieval.

For simultaneous audio input and output, use a 3.5mm TRRS adapter (CTIA standard) to combine mono input and stereo output, or simply connect a headset with integrated microphone.

13 GPIO pins are exposed for easily connecting additional peripherals to the board.

For battery-powered applications, Sonatino comes with an optional JST PH 2.0 connector that can be soldered to the bottom of the board and used with single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries. IMPORTANT: please be sure to double-check polarity as different battery manufacturers use different connector polarities.

While not in use, many components on the board can be switched to a low-power mode for extended battery life.
