Introduction to New Testament Greek: Tutor's Manual: A Quick Course in the Reading of Koine Greek (Greek Language)
L**R
of great value for independent learners
This Tutor's Manual is indispensable for independent learners with no previous knowledge of older forms of Greek and helpful for class teachers. An introduction gives suggestions for how much classroom time should be devoted to each lesson, which helps both teachers and independent learners move through Beetham's textbook at a reasonable pace.More important for the independent learner, English translations are provided for all of the exercises in the textbook. As Koine Greek grammar is quite different from English grammar and Koine vocabulary open to a wide range of English glosses, this takes the place of a teacher in helping the learner see where s/he translated correctly and what went wrong when s/he didn't. There are also useful footnotes at the bottom of almost every page.A Greek translation is provided for each of the optional English-to-Greek translation exercises in the textbook. As learners are not generally encouraged to try their hand at the rather complex Greek accentuation these passages are not accented, though a brief discussion of the rules of accentuation is given in an appendix. Brief additional biblical passages for translation from Greek into English not found in the textbook are provided for the first 20 chapters. Even with the copious hints and notes provided, many of these are quite challenging.Since English New Testaments are widely available, only the non-New Testament passages in the textbook's Reader section are translated. To help learners move from the textbook to independent reading, a brief appendix lists some of the grammatical features not covered in the textbook. All in all, this fine Tutor's Manual is indispensable for independent learners working through Frank Beetham's textbook and helpful for class teachers as well.
