AL-KO38P Combi-Care 2-in-1 Petrol Lawnrake/ Scarifier

I am so glad I bought this scarifier. It took me nearly 2 whole days to scarify our lawn, which is like a football pitch, and this machine removed a small mountain of thatch. It’s very simple to use, I only had 3 negatives really, the first was the placement of the priming buttons. The buttons are a little awkward to get to as they are within the engines shrouding. The second negative is the handle is a little uncomfortable. But to be fair I was using this for hours at a time and this was the lawns first scarification in 6 years. The last is the collection basket size, it’s big, but it’s no where near big enough. So what I ended up doing was scarifying without the basket then using my mower to hoover up the thatch after as the mower has a much bigger basket.

Got it out of the box, though it was very cheap looking. A little tricky to start but once you've done it once or twice it's no problem. Took it for a trip around the garden thinking I've just wasted my money. Very surprised to see the amount of dead thatch and Moss it had lefted. Pleasantly surprised. I have a good size garden and it does the job very well, saves me hiring one at £30 a time .

Great little scarifier / raker ideal for domestic use.Easy to set up - though the written instructions are not as clear as they should be, but there is a good you tube video available that goes through it all. I bought the specified oil from Halfords - sold as motorcycle oil.Started after 3 pulls - and worked very well. Easy adjustment of height and easy to change from rake to scarifier.The collection bag is too small when scarifying - I left it off and then picked up the debris by running my mower over the lawn (it has a far bigger collection bag). In fairness every scarifier I've hired has had the same problem. The collection bag was great when raking up a carpet of pine cones that had fallen from on of my pine trees.Handle folds down for easy storageOne thing that may have made life easier - if I had known to buy the oil when I ordered the machine - it could have come in one delivery - For reference its SAE10W-30

Used as a scarifier / aerator on 2 large lawns and did an excellent job on setting 2. Started first time and easy to manoeuvre if used on the right setting. The collecting box was overwhelmed by the vast amount of moss and thatch removed so used without. I used a rake and bagged it up manually later. The lawn always looks a mess at this stage but after collecting the debris it looked good. I have not used the rake attachment yet but am confident it will do a good job. The only real gripes were that one of the large front wheels got clogged with the debris but was easily cleared and that after a long period of heavy use the engine cut out. It restarted straight away when allowed to cool. It was working on a very tough job though. Overall a great buy for the money and would recommend. We had a so called professional company do this last year and if they hadn't charged a small fortune they would have been a complete joke. This Al-Ko machine did a far better job overall.

It works OK but you have to be careful, particularly turning otherwise you can easily take too much off. The main issue is that the grass box is not really large enough. You have to empty it every few minutes. Otherwise, it simply drops grass on the ground. But it is better than the electric option as you don't have the cable issues. Overall, I don't regret buying it.

Good service by Amazon, but what a mistake to purchase this !Managed to get it assembled and going quite quickly, apart from the need to first purchase non standard garden machinery oil.Started first time, but after this was very difficult and after three times of running it gave up and refused to start again !Overall I quickly found several bad things and design faults and am sure there are others I will never get the chance to find, due to a very quick return. Front of machine is very low and liable to getting the plastic easily damaged. Likewise the front flap touches the ground with only the slightest pull back on starting when you use it without the collection bag, which you are more likely to want to do. Plastic generally seems rather flimsy hence the machine is very lite and really could be more solid.Engine looks rather cheap with the primers being difficult to get too get too and the oil filler horizontal making filling a messy job.Silly safety device on the handle bars is cheap and poorly made and would guess this could be the reason my purchase would not start.ONLY reason for giving this a star is that on the short time it worked it did a great job of removing thatch and moss.Very dissapointed as due to other reviews expected MUCH better.

A great buy and highly pleased with this machine, my lawns were smothered with moss and I had spent quite a bit of time scouring web sites including all of the auction sites to make sure that I was buying a bit of kit that was capable of ridding my lawns of the carpet of moss.I had tried to tackle the moss problem with an electric Lawn Rake but it was over loading its capabilities and the motor was at the point of burning out..I must say that the Al-ko 38P proved to me on the first attempt that I had made the right decision and I was pleased that I had paid little attention to some of the trivial negative reviews, in all honesty this machine is easy to set up and go through the starting procedure.Also keep the collection bag on yes it fills up quickly but that only proves how efficient this machine is doing what it is supposed to do, I tried it with the collection bag off then using my petrol grass cutter to collect and clear the rows of moss but I soon found out that my grass cutter box was having to be empties as often as the bag on the Al-ko 39P and both were holding the same volume of moss so why handle the moss waste twice.This machine has thickish plastic side panels and top covers but one thing which is a great advantage it won't rust like most of the metal type of machines eventually land up due to the acidity of the grass and moss.Need I say more I am well pleased with my buy.

Ottimo prodotto per me che sono un neofita. Montaggio semplice e intuitivo. L'unica difficoltà è stata nel trovare il bottoncino "6" che è coperto da un tubicino. Trovato e schiacciato assieme al 10, si è messo in moto al 2° colpo.. il primo si strozza. Sono molto soddisfatto. Servizio Anazon impeccabile.

Difficile de trouver les ventouses la 1ere fois pompier 10 et 6 fois sur l'une et l'autre, après ça va.Enfoncer la came à droite du guidon en relevant la barre.2 coups de lanceur et c' est parti.1ère impression, le moteur 50cm3 paraît vraiment léger et il faut le laisser chauffer quelques minutes.La machine est très légère mais à l'usage quelque soit le rouleau le résultat est impressionnant et le panier se rempli vite, mousse, mauvaises herbes, rien ne résiste. Avoir une brouette à côté est préférable.Conclusion malgré une légèreté déconcertante au début, bonne machine nécessitant de travailler par petite surfaces maxi 500m2.Pour le prix, une bonne affaire.

Zu unseren ersten eigenen 4-Wänden gehören auch ca. 800 Quadratmeter Rasen. Dieser wurde leider von den Vormietern nicht sonderlich gepflegt. Hinzu kam eine viel zu hohe Randbeflanzung, die große Flächen verschattet hat. Ergebnis ist eine starke Moosausbreitung, die es mit einem performanten Vertikutierer zu beseitigen galt.Nach langer Überlegung, ob ein Mietgerät nicht besser ist als ein eigenes, habe ich mich für ein eigenes entschieden. Ein Mietgerät kostet um die EUR 60,- pro Tag. Wenn ich miete, geht das nur kurzfristig, da ich das Wetter einplanen muss. Möglich, dass man im Frühjahr überhaupt kein Mietgerät bekommt. Bei der Größe unseres Rasens und der Durchmoosung, muss ich vermutlich mindestens 2-3 Mal vertikutieren. Rechne ich da mal die nächsten 5 Jahre mit ein, kommt mich der AL-KO Vertikutierer auf jeden Fall billiger und ich bin völlig flexibel. Vorteil des AL-KO's: er ist ob seiner Bauart recht kompakt, so dass er nicht so viel Platz in der Garage oder im Geräteschuppen braucht, wie ein voll ausgewachsener Rasenmäher. Die meisten anderen Vertikutierer haben eher Rasenmäher-Ausmaße.Der AL-KO hat einen recht kleinen Motor, um die 50 ccm. Das ist soviel wie mein erstes Mofa und so klingt der Motor auch. Seine Arbeit leistet er jedoch trotzdem erstaunlich gut (Schnitthöhe 2 wählen). Wie schon viele Rezensenten vor mir geschrieben haben, ist der Fangkorb völlig nutzlos, da er nach wenigen Metern mit dem voluminösen Moos voll ist. Aber nur mit Moos - und genau das macht das Gerät besonders empfehlenswert. Wenn man ohne den Fangkorb arbeitet, muss man die Klappe, die normalerweise den Fangkorb abdichtet, hochbinden. Aber bitte nicht zu weit, weil sonst alles, was die Messer auf dem Rasen finden (bei uns viele, viele Kastanien, vielleicht anders wo auch Steine) nach hinten rausfeuern, was bei falscher Arbeitskleidung (ich hatte S3-Sicherheitsschuhe an und trotzdem blaue Flecken von den Kastanien am Schienbein) zu Verletzungen führen kann.Das Ergebnis ist wirklich der Knaller. Der AL-KO zieht wirklich (in Schnitttiefe 2) nur das Moos aus dem Rasen. Das haben wir dann zusammengekehrt (nervig und aufwändig, aber nicht zu vermeiden).Zum Gerät selber: der Zusammenbau ist gut beschrieben und ziemlich einfach. Die Haptik/Qualitätsanmutung ist eher schlecht und man macht sich Sorgen, ob das Gerät eine Stunde Dauerbetrieb durchhält. Diese Sorgen sind aber meiner Meinung nach unberechtigt, da keinerlei Verschleißspuren nach nunmehr 4 Stunden Vertikutieren erkennbar sind. Von daher gibts von mir hier 5 Sterne, da der AL-KO Vertikutierer alles macht, was ich erwartet habe.Kurzes Rechenexempel: 2 vertikutieren pro Jahr mit Mietgerät= EUR 120,-, heißt der AL-KO muss nur 2 Jahre durchhalten, dann hat er sich amortisiert. Da er vermutlich länger durchhält, auf jeden Fall ein guter Deal!
