Exstacy!
A red omnibus? Something must be wrong here! That was my first words when I opened the pacage containing the latest OMNIBUS Marvel has to offer (until the next one) Well,it's true. Both covers and the spine is in red ,which I find tasteful and suiting to the matterial. But let's get to the point immediately! Is this Omnibus worth it's price? Indeed it is. It contains every single story written with the X-statix team in it , a new foreword by creator Peter Milligan and some costume ideas, unused art by Allred ,alterante covers ,the original ending notes by the creators and if I'm not mistaken new inside covers by Michael Allred! For those of you not having any previous experience with the X-Statix team ,fear not. Everything you need to know is here. You need to know absolutely nothing about marvel continuinty ,major events etc to enjoy this hefty volume. Just start reading and everything shall be explained as the story unfolds. You could also buy this OMNIBUS just for the art alone.Mike Allred always tries hard to be innovative and here is a fine example of how combinig pop art and comic art can be visually astounding! If you love Mike Allred's art ,I guess you have already ordered this volume. If, on the other hand, you have never experienced Allred's fantastic ,futuristic ,fabulous (and other f-words ,except one you potty mouths :p)now it's time to correct this mistake.Long story ,short:Buy this volume. It's one of the best volumes in the OMNIBUS line.

Even if you buy it at full price...
It's totally worth it. I felt like a seventeen year old again when I read this mammoth collection. Biting writing, crazy non-mainstream artwork. It's almost depressing how this wouldn't make even six issues if it were published today as a monthly comic. The only downside? It didn't include the letter pages which always published the most scathing, negative letters by the disgruntled fans of the former X-Force (Cable and co.) I remember one letter comparing the artwork to Archie Comics' and I hope Mike Allred took that as a compliment. We could only wish to be compared to the likes of Dan DeCarlo and Harry Lucey.Alright, that's enough nerdiness from me. Just buy the comic already even if you can get it for only $125. It's worth every penny.

Pop Art Classics
In the early days of the 21st Century, Marvel was ready to try anything. Someone (Alex Alonso?) decided to take the most underrated Vertigo writer and pair him with Dark Horse's least movie-making artist. Together with several notable guest artists, they creating an amazing 40+ issue satire/soap opera/super epic mash-up that perfectly captured the state of fame, pop culture and the comics industry that was gleefully out of place in the post-9/11 climate. It's the perfect companion piece to Morrison/Quitely's X-Men run. A stand alone, cohesive work filled with charmingly heart felt cynicism and a deep love of comics.

One of the most unique superhero comics you can read
Peter Milligan's zany reality tv/influencer/celebrity satire + Michael Allred's art + X-Men make this a one-of-a-kind experience. X-Statix don't fit comfortably within continuity, existing instead in a strange pocket of the Marvel universe where they fight mutant moon men, homicidal teenagers, European knock-offs, and death itself. Allred's pop art gives it an other-worldy quality, as if seeing a retro-future where the aesthetics of the 50s and 60s continued and were transformed by the dawn of superheroes. It's not a perfect ride - there are no sympathetic characters here. That's on purpose, but it can make for nihilistic reading. Some of the humor hasn't aged well or simply falls flat. And a little Doop goes a long way - loved him in single panels, quickly tired of him in his own miniseries or one-offs.The omnibus is HUGE, containing just about every issue these characters ever appeared in. Took me probably a month to read. There's an impressive red leather cover with the X-Statix logo embossed in gold on the front. Backup material contains a script, sketches, alt covers and pin-ups.I wouldn't suggest this to casual readers, but it's worth taking the plunge for any more serious X fans. And considering the printing quality and the large amount of content, you certainly get your money's worth.

X-Men for reality TV
I got this at an incredibly reduced price. However, I'd like to say this would be a bargain at double the cost. Mike Allred's art is truly brilliant. It looks like some incredible union of the art from the comics of yesteryear, but with today's dynamic action and nuance.Pete Milligan's story is also fantastic. I honestly didn't see the end coming, and was sad when I turned that last page to find out there wasn't any more to enjoy. So, in the final analysis, I recommend this to just about anyone who likes comics. Gorgeous art, engaging story, and a concept that STILL feels kind of ahead of it's time.

This book is what makes me love Marvel so much.
I gave this five stars because I couldn't stop reading it once I started. Everything about this book is amazing. Even though the characters are parodying the idea of the traditional team super hero books, but I wound up falling in love with all of them. These characters were written so realistically and it made it easy to relate to them to some degree. The art was amazing even in the issues not done by Allred. I was just blown away with how much I love this book.

High Quality Product for High Quality Content!
The only thing I have to add that hasn't already been said is, DON'T READ THE INTRODUCTION! The forward in the beginning written by Peter Milligan gives away an important plot point for those who have never gone throughout the whole series before. That aside, I loved the Xstatix run, Mike Allred's art is TOP NOTCH and Peter Milligan's writing is FANTASTIC.For the casual reader you may want the individual volumes, but for the rabid fan, this is a must!
