Update. The seller reached out and were very understanding. They refunded all my money
I washed these rocks, put them in my heater, and the first few uses they were fine. The 4th time a terribly toxic smell started coming off them. I took them out and inspected them. Some had split already. When I put them in the heater they were all your typical grey color. Now some had sides that were completely white, some red, some showed bright deposits of...I have no idea what I'm seeing. I'd look else where for sauna rocks.

These Rock. LOL! Seriously Though… These are Great!
These lava rocks are perfect for the sauna. There’s a nice variety of sizes and you have enough for a variety of applications if you’d like. It took a while to get these delivered, but it was worth the wait. At first, I wished that there were more of the medium and larger sizes… but there more I think about it, the happier I am of the ratio of sizes they gave… the smaller size has more surface area which I’d imagine make them more effective regarding temperature and minerals and any beneficial off-gassing/steam. My only recommendation is that you reasonably clean each rock before using them in a sauna situation… otherwise, you may encounter stronger smells that could be detracting from your experience. While these are great for the sauna, you could also use these as accents in your garden or around your office. Lava rocks do have good anti-emf properties as well and are grounding in nature, so take advantage of this if you can’t afford lots of shungite, etc.

Exploding Rocks
The first time I used these rocks there were about 10 very loud explosions as moisture trapped inside of the rocks turned to steam and exploded sounding like gunshots. After one such explosion a quarter size piece of rock fell out of the bottom of the sauna heater. It was a bit scary but I think eventually the rocks will stop exploding.

Seem fine...strong smell coming out of the box.
So, this is a box of rocks. They're nice rocks and will probably work really well once I get them in the sauna. They look just like a lot of other sauna rocks I've seen and I'm excited to get them to work in the heat. But, they have a really strong smell coming off of them. I can't quite place it, but it's very noticeable. Being that saunas are enclosed spaces, I'm hopefully it will wash off. They have a lot of dust on them as well. But that's not surprising since they shipped in a bag in a box and were certainly jostled around. All of that to say, plan on thoroughly washing/drying these a few times before use. You'll want that powder/dust off of them and you'll want the smell gone. After that, they should perform just fine.

Be Careful - Poor Air Quality
Be very careful when buying these rocks. A horrible smell came from the rocks while I was running the sauna; the air burned my eyes. I bought this air tester. See pics. with Rocks - Unhealthy, without Rocks, Healthy.

Perfect for DIY saunas!
I've wanted to make a little DIY steam room for quite some time, and I knew that lava rocks would be a must-have for the perfect sauna experience. I was excited to find these because you get 35 lb, which is a lot of lava rocks, and it's a great deal! , but what's even better is that they work great. They put out the perfect amount of heat and then the perfect size for what I needed. They're beautiful and functional and I highly recommend these!

Violent popping and cracking
Our sauna is small and these rocks popped and cracked so violently, a chunk flew out and burned my leg. The next day I downloaded a rock identifying app that stated these are not volcanite, but are in fact slate. Very, very dangerous to use in a sauna! Ended up throwing them in the river nearby. Waste of money. This seller should be banned! False advertising! And Amazon wouldn't even refund the purchase as I used them on a day just over the 30 day return period. Shameful.
