Shocking Read!
After waiting for over three months for this book i obviously anticipated a exciting and entertaining plot but nothing could have prepared me for this explosive and completly unexpected plot twist. Without spoiling the book many characters appear to change their opinions and attitudes to certain things. The gone series is excellent and i am excited to read the finale one in the series sometime next year. This book is all about fear, although michael grant was originally going to call the book darkness. Then next book in the series is called light - so i am hoping that this means everything in the FAYZ will be resolved. This book shows everything going downhill for sam. His fear of the dark comes back to haunt him as the FAYZ begins to grow dark, although he has the only light source he is still scared. Fortunatly his friends help him to sort himself out. The children in the FAYZ are shown to be living in two gangs thoose down in Perdido Beach with King Caine and Albert ruling with the help of Penny who makes children see images which they feel are real. There is then thoose who moved at the end of the last book to Lake Tamahota (i think thats what its called, sorry about spelling) where sam is as always in charge with the help of edilo, dekka, jack and brianna. Lana has moved back to Clifftop with Sanjit and his family. There are also a few outcasts including Drake/Brittney and of course Astrid. Little Pete also appears to be very seperate from the world. Finally the largest twist is that we actually see some chapters from outside the FAYZ which shows whats happening outiside. It all seems to be leading to the fall of the FAYZ...Another brilliant book Michael Grant :)

Excellent Penultimate Read **Mild Spoilers**
This is one of the better books of the series! It has a lot going on and jumps nicely between the good (Sam) the Bad (Caine) and the damn right ugly (Drake).I enjoyed the new take on little Petey, it made for an interest read and Diana's pregnancy was written into it well.A couple of minor issues I have is the 'gay' characters. I'm not sure the Dekka and Brianna lesbian bit goes anywhere and if it needed to be in the story unless something significant happens in Book 6 'Light'.Also Edilio suddenly coming out, I had to re-read the line as it was a shock but again not really needed as it didn't add to the plot. This did not change the way I viewed the book, it's just something that doesn't seem to fit. Does anyone else feel this? The darkness was great, loved the slow build up of the world becoming dark and the sense of 'fear' creeping over everyone, including the reader.I'm 10% of the way through book 6 now and am truly sad it is coming to an end. This series really does need to become a film.I'll be back with my final review soon! Well done Michael Grant for another brillaint addition to the series

Teenager review
My nephews words: Fear" by Michael Grant is totally mind-blowing! The action is non-stop, and the twists had me on the edge of my seat. The characters face crazy challenges, and you never know what's coming next. It's like a wild adventure that keeps you guessing. If you love excitement and suspense, this book is a must-read for teens like me!

Fear
When I got this book, i thought it might be quite good, but not as good as plague. How wrong I was. This is definitely the best in the series. It may not have the large scale battles of the previous books, but it is even more epic on its own terms. The plot focuses around the FAYZ barrier is turning black, soon, there wont be any outside light. This is very bad, as our characters find out. Meanwhile, the gaiaphage is looking for a new body which it can be reborn. Michael Grant creates a great sense of peril and tension, while putting in a lot of character development in several characters including Caine, Diana and Orc. And he keeps the pace all the way through until the shocking finale, which I don't want to spoil for you. If you are a fan of the gone series, do not hesitate to buy this book. If you aren't, there's never a better time to start.

Superb
I guess if you're reading this then you've already read books 1 thru 4 and once again Michael Grant does not disappoint. The whole series is just a fantastic, weird, chilling, eventful and harrowing story which is just I possible to put down.As a 46 year old man, my usual type of book would be Harry Potter, The Hobbit or anything of Terry Pratchett's but my wife recommended this and I'm so glad she did.I never plot spoil so I'll just say that if you pick up book 1, you will not stop until you've seen the Light.

Amazing.
Absolutely fantastic ! I started the first book at Christmas and I'm already on the last one ! I have stayed up till 3 in the morning since Christmas stuck to my kindle ! Best book I have ever read ! Didn't want to put them down at all ! I have 3 other people reading them now and everyone says the same from the first book to the last, it grips you into the world of the FAYZ and tells the story perfectly ! Absolutely fantastic Michael grant is officially my favourite author for this type of book

Another great sequel - engaging, disturbing, at times horrifying but totally and inescapably riveting
I thought I might have tired of this tale by now but the characters became more engaging and more disturbing but equally enthrallingSlightly dubious and even more far fetched but it’s fiction !!Best bit was the end - thank goodness I’ve already downloaded book six 😂
