I purchased one speaker initially to determine its relevance for a large project where I might use a dozen or so of them. Basically, the question to answer was: does this speaker live up to the amazing frequency response graphs? Yes. Yes it does.I received my first speaker with a surface scratch across its woven cone, and addressed from an Amazon return warehouse, despite having purchased it new. So, I was a bit skeptical of the speaker I received at first, but went through with testing it anyways.The results were phenomenal: those response curves are indeed correct, and with basically no distortion no less. Complicated music sounds fantastic on them, and heck, out of the box, it sounds great even without a tweeter! My measurements were taken with a miniDSP UMIK-1 calibrated reference microphone in a quite room, speaker alone in a crude ~1 cubic foot sealed cabinet, and distortion measured as my noise floor across the board at loud volume - ~50dB THD across 200 Hz - 20 kHz.Now, that being said, this speaker has one flaw: low Xmax. Because of the low excursion limit (and I did test it beyond this - Xdamage is 6.8mm - and it still performs really well), this speaker is not really suited for lower frequencies on its own. On the same note, because of its off-axis radiation pattern, using a tweeter is recommended. So, with a crossover of 300 Hz - 4 kHz, this driver sounds phenomenal. For the lower frequencies (80 Hz - 300 Hz), I suggest using the bigger cousins to this driver: Faital Pro's 5FE100 (5") and 6FE100 (6") - they perform just as amazingly as this speaker, but with 5.25mm Xmax instead of this one's 1.73mm, and with much larger surface area. I may indeed raise this crossover later, but this speaker is so good the entire human vocal range can be presented by this single driver.No complaints. For $35, this is an absolute steal of a product.
