* In New York in the early 70s clubs such as the Sanctuary and the loft parties run by David Mancuso were creating a more open, mixed (both racially and sexually) dance scene, created in part by the loosening of social mores. If a record was championed in one of the leading clubs it could go on to become a hit. Record companies soon realised they could tailor sounds to the scene. Tom Moulton led the charge. * Moulton, a former fashion model, had an instinctive ear for what would work in a club, and began to create mixes of records that catered to the dance crowd. He mixed hundreds of records for a myriad of labels, but his initial work was done at Scepter Records. The very best gathered together on the two volumes of the LP "Disco Gold", from which we have distilled this CD. * Moulton's remixes extended parts that kept the floor full, and created the peaks and troughs that would send a crowd wild with excitement. The music on this CD defines the remix for those who followed: from Walter Gibbon through Masters At Work, to Harvey and Ashley Beadle. * Moulton chose sublime tunes to work on. So here's his extension of Patti Jo's 'Make Me Believe In You', the Independents' 'I Love You Yes I Do', where he carefully adds a minute to its playing time and a world of difference to its excitement levels, or Bobby Moore's '(Call Me Your) Anything Man' one of disco's earliest and most compelling tracks. In the late 70s disco became over-commercialised and boom would turn to bust, but Moulton's earliest mixes, the ones on "Disco Gold" stand as examples of highpoint of the genre.

A fantastic collection of early club hits that presents more obscure ...
A real time-capsule that captured the early disco period. A fantastic collection of early club hits that presents more obscure but still great disco records rather than the tired same old overplayed "classics" (you know the ones I mean!) A really worthwhile addition to any disco/70s soul fans collection

A refreshing reissue
Nice to see the best of the Disco Gold series released on CD, I've been waiting on this one for sometime, as I've worn out my vinyl copies over the years. This is an essential set of early disco for anyone remotely interested in the genre. They've chosen the strongest tracks, most of which are in their full length glory, thanks to "A Tom Moulton Mix" Just buy this CD and press play this weekend 10/10.

Fantastic collection of songs
Every single track on here is truly top notch. One of the best collections i've purchased in a while. Forgotten gems to be sure, and amazing sound quality. The two Patti Jo songs alone go for hundreds of dollars for the original pressings, and they don't even sound as good as on here. (although I believe they were just repressed after decades, likely spurred by this release)

Finally found Bob Moore on CD
I bought this album, because only in this cd appears the song "(Call Me Your) Anything Man" with Bobby Moore. Recorded in 1975, now at version 12 "beautifully remastered by Tom Moulton. Only this song is worth the value of the entire disk. Highlights also include: Ultra Hight Frequncy - We're The Right track. The other songs are great and remember the wonderful soul of the seventies.

all new to me
I had never even heard of these songs but if this was early disco, then I'm glad I was not there yet! It is pleasant enough to listen to just not what I expected! I thought To Moulton mixes were just on established artists' tracks but evidently that is not the case!

Not bad, not great, pretty good, not overly impressed.
I have dozens of disco music compilations and this collection did not overly impress. I look for the obscure artists and songs that I am not familiar with and am usually impressed and enjoy those collections.
