Sorry for the late reply, the hat is suitable for 24'' head.

Q: The red looks like a berry color on my computer screen, but someone else described it as rust. Which is it?

I find it to be more of a darker red/burgundy color. I love mine, wear it often. The photo is very accurate as to the color.

Q: Is there any metal parts on this hat?

Yes, although our hats are simple, there are no other decorations. But the part that is adjusted behind our hat is a metal buckle.
