The Deep Dark: A Graphic Novel

I am glad that I purchase this book! I love it! I read it in less than a day! I usually take really long time and even months to finish books but this one, on my, I have no regrets!Now, sharing my experience about this book with no spoilers mentioned. One note that I would like to mention is that I love the point of view the author has! We always should see things differently in life and that way will help us keep moving forward! I truly love it and looking forward for the other books! ❤️

Loved Molly Ostertag's The Witch Boy series and could not wait for this book. Exceeded my expectations, LOVE this book. Cannot recommend enough.

This was an incredibly beautiful story! The illustrations and color schemes were fantastic. I really enjoyed the “dark” part of Mags and the ending of the story. Highly recommend!

Such a vivid depiction of remembered child abuse and trauma I expected for a while that the supernatural element would turn out to be just the protagonist's delusion, a means of overwriting the memory of more ordinary child abuse.Unfortunately, the novel's conclusions on how to deal with the toxic interpersonal dynamics it illustrates are so bad I can't give it more than three stars even though the novel is well-written and drawn (I feel like that's a good compromise). No, the solution to self-harm is not to just accept it (jeez, just buy blood from a blood bank like any pacifist vampire would do). And more important, you don't deal with domestic violence of this magnitude by merely giving the abuser a speech and threatening to call his parents. You call the police and have him prosecuted. Even if he never does anything to you again, he's going to do it to someone else down the line. Also, the plot twist which enables the author to justify the child abuse really bothers me, even though it's not a plot hole. Ostertag didn't have to write the plot in a way that would justify child abuse, but she did.

I was blown away by the story! I absolutely loved how color was used to convey several emotional beats, and I love the heavy complexity of themes in this story. I know I can always rely on Molly to deliver amazing LGBTQ+ stories that offer a lot of heart and representation done right. 10/10!

Before this book I already really loved the author I have read all of her other work. However when I sat down to read “the deep dark” I couldn’t stop reading, in fact I read it in one sitting. One of the best LGBTQIA+ books ever. The romance, mystery, self discovery, and very slight horror (depending on what you find scary) was perfect. 10/10 would recommend

This is a really good graphic novel! I have enjoyed all the other graphic novels this author has created and this one is no different. I loved the journey that the main character goes on through out this book. I could write more about this book, but should read it for yourself to learn what happens. It truly is a great book!

No notes. Book has a perfectly told story for what it's about. Love that the paneling and art direction tell as much of the story as the content in the pages. Very easy and fun read. Highly recommend.
