Shure SE846s broke right at the 2-year mark, talk about Planned Obsolescence (2-year warranty). I could use them without a DAC and the music would punch my eardrums, very clear and clean. Since I workout in IEMs sometimes I wanted something more durable, cheaper, and with more thumbs for my Workout EDM - I got what I wanted. The only sacrifice is clarity and the single driver gets ‘muddied’ up with other notes. I will keep these because I don’t want to keep messing up $1k headphones, but that’s it. Now I HAVE to use a DAC to provide enough juice for the drivers, where the SE846 could still sound good without a DAC. So now I just have to workout with a DAC in my pocket. “Is that a DAC in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?”
