Excellent
I love all the characters but some of the things that happened to them, just because they are LGBT, was absolutely awful

Back for more...
I said in my review of Book 1 of this series that I suspected that I'd be back for more and having just finished Book 3, it seems I was right! This is more satisfying in some ways than Book 1 as Al matures and grows and finally accepts that she is gay. In this she stops hiding behind inappropriate men but accepts that she will remain a 'spinster' and focus on her career instead. Juliana remains something of an enigma but we learn a little more about her in this. I suspect her mysteriousness is deliberate by the author, who reveals her back story bit by bit...that certainly keeps things interesting! This is in some ways a harder read than Book 1 as the post-war period is not an easy time for anyone 'creative' as McCarthyism marches its toxic way through the US. But I'm growing to love Al and even though Juliana continues to put her through the emotional wringer you know that she's tough enough to survive. Straight onto Book 3 for me...

Don't miss this one!
I've been struggling to find words that convey just how impressed I've been with this novel. It is, in two words, spectacularly impressive: full of convincing action, fast on its feet, suspenseful and told with real verve. I loved it. It so happens, by the way, that I actually picked up the 2nd volume first, so I'll be going back to Vol.1 with my juices already flowing...and there'll still be Vol.3 to come. A read of real quality.

Loved this book
I couldn’t stop reading this book. I’m committed now to the whole series having read all so far and completely rapped up in it . Can’t wait for the next instalment . I’ve loved seeing how al (the main character and first person)has come on in the city ( New York) through the years . Her history . Her friends . Her life ! How’s she began as a simple broadway hopeful to become a high powered career woman . I’ve enjoyed the historic backdrop to this story - a way of life long forgotten . I’ve read with dismay of al’s and her friends struggles with the homophobic attitudes of the times and the injustice of it. I especially love though her romantic but clandestine affair with beautiful singer Julianna . Looking for a lot more of that in Paris ! Can’t wait
