The idea behind this machine, is UV-A & UV-C level lights are used to 'deactivate' the dna in microorganisms that may be left on the knives & boards after washing, thereby killing them off. I am a crunchy grandma, which means I don't use chemicals to clean my house! I use all natural, homemade (the most minimal ingredients) cleaning & self-care products in my home. I don't like disinfecting with bleach, so when this popped up, I snagged it! As you can see in my last photo, in the little 'anti-drug machine' (seriously sellers, DO BETTER with that translation!) pamphlet, they do list the specifications for the light used. While UVA light destroys microorganisms, it is the UVC light you want-that is the level of UV rays they use in hospitals (and hotels, industrial kitchens, etc) to actually disinfect & sterilize surfaces. UVC has the smallest wavelengths of all the UV lights to penetrate the teeniest areas to get those germs. Now, does this have enough sufficient light to trust it's going to do the job in the amount of time the UV light is on? If you're like me, I choose to. All my kitchen utensils get washed in hot, soapy water, rinsed in hot water, & air dried. This is just a bonus! After the cycles (drying and sterilization) are complete, everything is dry. The machine appears to work as intended. I like I can tuck it in a corner of my very tiny kitchen, and it stays out of the way. The drying cycle does bring some noise, but it's very, very minimal, just like a fan.As for the set itself, it's AWESOME! The knives are incredibly durable and SHARP! Each bamboo charcoal board (LOVE the material, very organic!) has a different surface. The fruit & veggie board has a little area for grating, which I have successfully used when grating up my ginger & turmeric roots for Fire Cider. The knives did nic the board up a bit, but that's to be expected with such wonderfully made knives on an organic material board that isn't wood. I usually prefer wood, but I have other kitchen pieces made of bamboo charcoal, and I love them! Such nice, clean, durable material, washes up so great. While I snagged a heckofa great deal on this prior to Christmas, the price here, now, is still actually really reasonable, as you find these all over for so much more. I choose to trust science, so this is a winner for me!

Great looking set at a fair price. And works as advertised

This product is amazing start to finish. Item arrived in a large box with lots of Styrofoam for protection. Each cutting board has its own slot similar to a toaster that disinfects the board. The knife slots are pretty specific to how they're displayed in the photo or you may find yourself trying to put the larger knife in a smaller one that doesn't fit. Knives are sharp and the veggie board has a textured section I haven't found out what that's for yet. Pretty good purchase. I'm sure it'd make a great gift

Cool cutting board set. However the base itself is way bigger than expected. Takes up a nice portion of the counter. Have not used it yet because I will return and try to find something smaller.

I wanted to have dedicated knives for quick meals so I wasn't using my good set and these are perfect, its also helpful to have dedicated cutting boards to avoid cross contamination. In regards to cleaning I still hand wash the knives and the cutting boards go into the dishwasher although it states in the instructions that both the knives and boards are dishwasher safe. The drying feature works well it but the boards were still a little damp but being plastic thats no problem the knife blades were dry. I don't know how well the UV works since I'm not putting anything under a microscope but I assume that it functions as intended. This would make an awesome gift and is more cost efficient than similar models available.
