Dickey 'n' the boys playin' up a storm
I bought this 2-cd over the dvd as I would rather listen to good music than watch it. Dickey has always been up there with the greats, and vastly under-rated in my opinion. This album is a good example of his musical dexterity, backed by a fine bunch of musicians on both concerts, [from 1978 & 2008].CD 1 [1978] kicks off with a loose number 'Run Gypsy Run' before a stunningly intense 11 minute take on 'Elizabeth Reed'. 'Good Time Feeling' chugs along nicely before the slightly below-par 'Dealing with the Devil'-good guitar work but the vocals from Dickey? and an un-named other are absolute pants! So out of key it's unbelievable. However, as if to make amends, this track is followed by a sublime 'Jessica' [try keeping to the speed limit if you're driving to this!] which leads into a stunning 29 minute 'High Falls' which is Allman-like but with Dickey's boot stamped all over it. A finale of 'Ramblin' Man' rounds off the 75 minute concert.CD 2 [2008] [with a different band from the 1978 concert, including Dickey's son Duane, gtr] starts with 'Statesboro Blues' followed by 'Nothing You Can Do' 'Blue Sky' 'Get Away' 'One Way Out' & 'Having a Good Time' before the highlight, nearly 20 minutes of a bluesy/jazzy/rocky 'Liz Reed', showcasing the band's considerable talent and musicianship. The icing on the cake for me during this track is after a relatively short drum solo, the bass kicks in, before the band segue into part of Jimi's 'Third Stone from the Sun'. Absolutely stonking! Two encores, 'No one To Run With' & 'Ramblin' Man' round off the 70+minute concert in fine style. Nice one Mr. Betts & Co.

Mighty Fine!
The DVD records two concerts by Dickie Betts at Rockpalast, thirty years apart. For me, it is the earlier (1978) concert that is the real gem. Rockpalast was one of the few organisations that produced good video recordings of rock concerts back in the seventies, and I don't know of any other Dickey Betts concerts from that period that are available on DVD.Dickie's performance here is superb, but the whole band, which includes 'Dangerous' Dan Toler on guitar, and two of the best drummers I have ever seen, are just a brilliant unit. The expression 'Mighty Fine!' is just a throwaway remark by one of the drummers, but it sums up the performance for me. I think that this particular band was only together for a few years because Dickie rejoined the Allmans shortly after this concert, taking several members of this band with him. I would certainly recommend this to any fans of Dickie Betts.

Southern Rock at it's best
I had reservations about this package: would he 1978 performance be well recorded and produced or a jumble of noise, poor lighting and bad camera angles? Would the 2008 performance be an pale shadow of former glories? I am delighted to be able to report that my doubts were ill-founded on both counts. This is a wonderful record of a genuinely great artist who can jsut do it live. I was most impressed by the vigour of the 2008 performance. This is better than any of the Allman Brothers DVD's so if youlike their stuff - get this!

Great!!
5 for the 1978 show - 4 for the 2008 show. Great recorded set of an under appreciate legend! The 1978 show is blistering. The 2008 show was better than I thought. You wouldn't want much from Dickey after 2008. This is probably the last great Dickey before the very noticeable decline. Highly recommended for fans of his style/music.

Well
Delivery was just fine. Dickie Betts should have stayed with Almman Bros, better there.

Southern Rock at its best
I always liked Rock Palace and Dickey Betts and Great Southern best enjoyed with a glass of Southern Comfort..... I also like the Allman Brothers, a band in which Dickey Betts once many moons ago played. Good album, recommend it whole heartedly.

ONE WAY OUTやBLUE SKYも涙ものですが、JESSICAやRAMBLIN’MANが聞き比べられるというありがたさ。

Vom Feinsten!

Betts Keeps Burning
This double disc is priceless. The 1978 show is Betts in his heyday: fluid guitar lines, open jamming and his usual surefire cockiness. His band is great to watch, a bunch of good ol' boys, including some fierce guitar playing by Dangerous Dan Toler. The big treat is the 2008 show and just how good Betts remains. Sure he is older and his voice not as lilting, but his fretwork is impeccable. He hardly hits a sour note (as he was doing in the early 2000s)and plays with renewed vigour alongside his younger bandmates. A great testament to one of the best and most underappreciated guitarists of his generation.

( Cd 1- 8 titres : 75mn56 / Cd 2 - 9 titres : 74mn01 )
