Icy Box IB-RD3662-C31 Raid enclosure for 2 x 3.5 inch Sata hard drives USB 3.1 Type-C (Gen 2, 10 Gbit/s), Raid (0/1/large/single), EasySwap, fan

Never owned a standalone raid box before but had a few old HD's laying around so after seeing this on sale used for £50 + postage bought one to try. Within 3-4 mins was up and running so easy to install with the tool less design and the instructions are so simple. Literally put a couple of drives in (takes seconds) Select raid mode you want power on wait a moment then press the reset button and the box auto sets up the desired raid. Power off wait a few seconds and power back on, I'm on Windows 10 so there you go into disc drive management and the new raid will populate and you set it up as you would any other new drive in your system. I'm getting 400mbs on both reads and writes consistently plugged into USB 3.1 Gen 2 port. So impressed i have just bought another used one here off Amazon to setup another raid with my remaining 2 old drives. The fan was a bit noisy so i unplugged it as it too is easy to remove etc.

I'm using this with two 4TB WD Red drives as a raid 1 (each disk is a mirror of the other). It is reasonably quiet... (my laptop fan is noiser), but it may be an issue in a quiet environment. It has been working away for a couple of months now and seems to be fine. I'd have liked some sort of display/diagnostic option to report on the drive status as there is only the two LEDs (one per drive) and they are pretty bright blue.... too bright for some environments, but OK in an office; however this is a lower price end unit and a display may have been too pricey). Mine (sold and shipped by Amazon) came with a Euro plug... which is a bit annoying since I then had to buy an adaptor... the PSU is a seperate block style with the mains plug as part of the block, so with the euro-UK adaptor, it sicks out lot a lot.. It would have been much better to have a separate (perhaps figure of 8 style) mains cable... as these days most people have spare cables around if the one supplied did not have the right plug.

Noisy

Beim Auspacken fällt einem sofort das Gewicht auf. Alles ist wertig und massiv gefertigt. Die Festplatten lassen sich komfortabel einsetzen. Das RAID-Level lässt sich mit einem Schalter auswählen und funktioniert einwandfrei. Der Verarbeitung ist wohl auch zu verdanken, dass die Vibrationen der Festplatten gut gedämpft werden. Da rappelt nichts.

Nous utilisons les produits ICYBOX depuis presque 10 ans, jamais eu de problème, produits au top! J'ai même remplacé les boitiers de mes anciens disques LaCie orange (qui grillait tt le temps...) par des ICY BOX depuis plus de problème ;)

Scrivo la recensione di questo prodotto dopo la lunga ed estenuante ricerca di un box per hard disk da collegare al mio iMac tramite la porta usb 3.1 con connettore di tipo C. In particolare, mi interessava che il box in questione fosse provvisto dell'interfaccia di seconda generazione, ovvero quella in grado di supportare velocità di trasferimento fino a 10Gbit/s, nell'eventualità di utilizzarlo con degli ssd in futuro. Di recente avevo già acquistato un box Akitio (NT2 U31 C) un po' più costoso ma con le stesse specifiche, tuttavia avendo trovato in offerta questo Icy Box a soli 60€ ho deciso di acquistarlo per fare un confronto vista l'assenza di recensioni. Senza dilungarmi troppo vi dico già da subito che la differenza in termini di qualità costruttiva e di progettazione c'è e si percepisce a colpo d'occhio. Questo box infatti, al contrario del rivale Akitio, non è interamente in alluminio. La parte frontale dove si inseriscono gli hard disk, così come il retro dove sono presenti l'ingresso usb e quello per la corrente, è in plastica. Inoltre è possibile notare come la verniciatura utilizzata per rivestire lo chassis in alluminio tenda a venire via molto facilmente. Il mio presentava già delle scoloriture nel momento in cui l'ho estratto dalla confezione, probabilmente a causa dell'assenza di un vero e proprio imballaggio all'interno di quest'ultima (vedi foto). Il box della Akitio invece arriva incastonato in una sorta di polistirolo sagomato all'interno della confezione. Altra nota a sfavore riguarda la presenza del solo cavo type-C to type-C (quello type-A to type-C non è fornito) e le dimensioni dell'alimentatore, a mio avviso leggermente ingombrante. Ultimo dettaglio non trascurabile è la rumorosità. Per quel che mi riguarda è un po' troppo rumoroso se, come me, pensate di lasciarlo sulla scrivania mentre lavorate al pc. Sarà che l'iMac è praticamente un ninja in quanto a silenziosità ma questo box fa davvero troppo rumore per i miei gusti. Confrontato con il box della Akitio non c'è paragone (vedi video). Mentre quest'ultimo si limita ad emettere un leggero sibilo (sopportabilissimo), il modello della Icy Box pare che debba decollare da un momento all'altro. Altro piccolo dettaglio riguarda il funzionamento, nel senso che finché non collegate il cavo usb al computer il box non si accende anche se l'interruttore è impostato su "on". Comoda invece la possibilità di fare lo swap veloce dei dischi grazie agli sportelli frontali provvisti di tasto di espulsione. Per quanto riguarda le prestazioni non ho notato differenze tra questo e l'altro box poiché entrambi raggiungono le stesse velocità. In conclusione, nonostante i difetti di cui ho parlato, si tratta tutto sommato di un buon prodotto se confrontato con la gran parte delle cineserie che si trovano su Amazon. Se lo trovate al di sotto dei 100€, preferibilmente tra i 60€ e gli 80€, e non avete troppe pretese in termini di rumorosità ed estetica allora compratelo senza farvi troppi problemi. Se invece volete qualcosa di leggermente migliore e siete disposti a spendere qualcosina in più allora optate per il box della Akitio.

(ICY BOX IB-RD3662-C31) Excellente fabrication, sobre, robuste et très compacte, mais les leds sont un peu trop intenses. Remplacer les 2 disques ne prends pas plus de 10 secondes, pas d'attaches ou de vis, juste un système de coulissage. Je m'en sers pour faire fonctionner 2 disques en indépendants, je ne peux pas me prononcer sur la fonction RAID mais je note qu'elle n'est gérable qu'à partir d'un curseur dangereusement situé près de l'interrupteur (à l'arrière du boitier). Pas de contrôle logiciel, comme c'est le cas de la plupart des concurrents et donc pas moyen de connaitre l'état SMART ou d'avoir la moindre information sur la config RAID. Mais le plus gros souci est que le ventilateur, assez bruyant soit dit en passant, s'arrête de temps en temps pour ne plus redémarrer et les disques montent à plus de 50°. Il faut alors (si on se rends compte du problème) redémarrer l'engin pour que le ventilo se remette en marche. Ennuyant si on veut le laisser tourner en permanence ou dans le cas d'opérations ne pouvant être interrompues. SI c'était à refaire je choisirai une autre marque.

Ich kann mich den Rezensenten nicht anschließen, die behaupten das Laufwerk sei laut. Angeschlossen an einem USB-C Port der 2. Generation ist kaum was zu hören. Und das Teil steht mit 2 8 TB-WD-Red auf meinem Schreibtisch. Dazu wirkklich schnelle Übertragungsraten. Super - Für mich wie geschaffen. Aktuell kopiere ich gerade eine externe 2,5" Festplatte auf das Raid und dieses externe Laufwerk ist lauter (!) als das Raid. Hab mir gerade gleich noch ein zweites bestellt für den zweiten Rechner. Super Geräte mit tollem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis.
